Most of those 5 years are junk to make the numbers work. It'll effectively be a 1-2 year deal.

5 years??!!! That is a Nolan move, that clueless DBag. THe man is 36 and you expect him to play until he's 41/42???? What is wrong with the Broncos.

no..they expect him to retire as a bronco whether it's after this year or after next year..they don't expect him to play til 41 and they won't pay him until 41...

Only $7M guaranteed. Smart move by Denver, poor decision by us to not even get involved in talks.

I think Nolan has had “some” input. They most likely asked him what his 3-4 D lacked in SF. His response was without a doubt “lack of a NT and poor Safety play.”

From there, Denver’s player personnel set out to address it, unlike our (49ers) staff. This was no doubt reinforced by their experience with Lynch coming in as an older S.

I am just a bit upset that the 49ers don't have the brains or balls to make these kind of moves.

This is assuming that guys like Dawkins are willing to come to SF when there are other options...look at the Chris Canty visitation schedule and the fact that SF is listed as 'sometime after seattle'. SF wants him to come and wants to sign him but his visitation schedule makes me think that Canty isn't over joyed with the idea of playing in SF and it's more of a last resort type of thing...kinda like telling a guy to stay in college for the education JUST IN CASE...

I would have loved to see him play with us. But now instead we were too busy signing a mediocre WR. Now we have 4 mediocre WRs at best.

We actually have 3 young WRs with plenty of potential. Just because you haven't seen 1000 yards and 10 TDs out of them doesn't mean they aren't capable. Jones is an upgrade over Bryant Johnson -- faster, better blocker.

Besides, we're not going to be a team that needs a $10M/year wideout.

Uhh...put your hatred for Nolan aside for 2 seconds and realize he's just the D-Coordinator and has NOTHING to do with contracts and most likely even the personnel.

Anyway, the deal is likely structured to only be 1-2 years long with team options for the remaining years. With only 7 mil in guarantees it's a really good signing.

That's the only number I even look at, it's the only one that matters. Denver got Dawkins for a good price, even if they only get one productive year out of him.

What about his first year's salary? Or is it generally very low?

...and as long as he not on the eagles anymore, I am happy (happier at least)

It really doesn't matter. All that matters is what they HAVE to pay him, regardless if he works out or not.

I'd drop $7M on a guy who forced 6 fumbles last year and had a few sacks, who is a team leader and a fierce hitter.

Donut!

Good for Brian, I always thought he was being underpaid (which is a rarity).
