consider looking at Sean Jones the free-agent SS out of cleveland.

He is 6'1 220
he could help out our secondary.

i havent heard anyone being interested in him.

Learn more about him with this source..http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=5584

If he's strictly a SS, then there's no wonder....we opted to not talk to Gibril Wilson for the same reason.

Just a pointer.... Niners need to replace our FS and switching from SS to FS isnt an easy assingment!

no shiz..ask roman...dumber and dumber and dumber...

still an upgrade over Roman and probably Goldson too, he's got 13 more INTs and 10 more Pass Def. in the last 3 seasons than Mark does

and he played FS in college

Well I would have thought the same of Wilson too...then again, he's not so much a play maker as a steady producer.

But yeah, if this guy is a good prospect, it's very suspect I haven't seen his name anywhere.

well we still have Michael Lewis, Dashon Goldson, And the new guy Jimmy Williams, and if they draft a safty him too.

it seems like we already have solid depth but Sean Jones would be an UPgrade.

we should have one of the Best secondaries in the league next year.

idk why his name hasn't been mentioned but he is a playmaker in his year career he has 14 INT's and 202 solo tackles

he has been having some knee and ankle problems and I think that's probably why teams are hesitant on signing him

but another thought: if McCloughan/Singletary truly believe that Goldson is the answer at FS, then that leaves nobody behind Michael Lewis at SS on the depth chart now that Keith Lewis is gone. If Jones' price gets low enough, **** it - we should sign him as a back-up SS... signing back-ups seems to be our thing this off-season anyhow

Werd, do you know when michael lewis's contract is up?

i think he could start in front of michael lewis

Right, he'll be a backup when he is a better all around player than M. Lewis is? He's a better cover guy/ball hawk and can still give you that run support that you need. His 14 INTs in 3 years speak for themselves.

Jones played FS in college, so it's not like he's unfamiliar. The reason he plays SS in Cleveland is because the year he was drafted, they also acquired FS Brian Russell in a big FA move...while Jones' size says SS, his play style is actually more that of a natural free safety.

If he's got injuries and they aren't too serious, go get him. Why wait for someone else. If he could play either FS or SS, even better. Then we can keep guys like Reggie at CB and develop him there instead of moving them back and forth.

ESPN has him at FS, I thought he was a better SS than FS but at this point we need depth at S so bring him in and for hell sake talk to these guys. The niners front office seems scared to even invite these guys in for visits. The more you interview the better chance they'll have for finding the right guy!

I like him too, but we probably won't get him for three reasons and three reasons alone:

1.) Asking price.
2.) He's not a centerfielder. He's more of a box safety and we are set with Lewis in that department.
3.) Injury history.
