Seriously, if Crabtree or even Orakpo is around at 10, and we go with Sanchez, I'll be throwing something at the TV.

that's right, we would definitely go Orakpo or Crabtree over Sanchez

The perfect scenario in that situation is that we trade with Denver for their 12th pick, and still end up with one of Crabtree of Orakpo, and get an additonal pick to boot.

If Crabtree is there you take him, you don't risk trading down. Orakpo is a nice talent but he isn't on Crabtree's level.
He won't be there anyways.

I like the Sanchez pick. Just because we missed with the Smith pick a few years back does not mean we should be afraid of picking another QB in the first round. Yes it is risky, but it has the highest upside to any pick. Look at the value of Jay Cutler - two first round picks, one third, and an established QB. That shows you the value this league places on a franchise QB. If we want to get back to the glory days we need a franchise QB and I really don't think that Smith or Hill fit that bill.

Why would Denver trade up two spots to grab a quarterback? If anything they would trade up ahead of us since we are a threat to draft a quarterback.
What is more possible is that some other team further down in the draft would want to trade up with us to leap frog Denver.

Thank you. I and others have said this before, but lets face it, it ruins the fantasy of dropping 2 spots, still getting the guy you want and then getting to pick back to back in the 2nd. I'd be all for it, but I dont think it is realistic.

I didn't get the Cleveland pick: why Raji when you have Rogers?
I don't see 2 WR's getting chosen before Crabtree.

I was thinking the same, why have two NTs in a 3-4? I didn't get what he was saying when he said pair them together. I'm not sure if he thinks Raji projects at 3-4DE or what.

I agree with Mayock that we might take Sanchez either as a QB we need or as trade bait.

I don't see why the Broncos would do it. It's only two spots, plus they must have liked Orton at least somewhat in order to trade for him.
Now the Jets or even the Bucs, they might seriously be interested.

you always rotate NT's in a 3/4...they get beat up faster going 1 on 2 :slap:

I love Mayock's analysis, and I'm fine with Sanchez, but this draft gets pretty odd. I could see Oakland passing on Crabtree for a speed guy, but I cant see Jacksonville taking Maclin over Crabtree.
Also odd that he thinks so little of Stafford and prefers Sanchez but thinks Detroit will take Stafford anyway, but no one will take Sanchez until 10.

Yes, but unless you're absolutely stacked with talent, you don't use a #4 overall pick on a rotational nose tackle.

Cleveland was the 5th worst team against the run last season giving up 150+ yards and 4.5 ypc. When you play predominantly rushing teams like Pitt and Bal 4 times a year you better have a strong front. I'm sure either Raji or Rogers could slide over to DE and make a pretty good front 3.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did take him.

while i don't think the browns will take raji here, i can understand why and mayock pointed it out. Having to play the steelers and ravens twice a year you need to stop the run. I would think both raji and rogers are capable of playing a 3 tech in that 3-4 defense. I remember watching rogers play DE in Detroits 4-3 on a few occasions. So having Raji at NT and Rogers at the 3 would make them very hard to run it up the gut..

Also, doesn't Rogers still want out of Cleveland? :telephone:

I know the Steelers are known for physical football and all but they did not do a good job of running the ball last year. They ranked 23rd. If the Browns want to stop the Steelers, they'd need to be able to get to Ben Roethlisberger.

Ben is sacked more than anyone in the league and their run game isn't half of what it used to be. The Browns biggest problem was scoring. I think they went 5 games in a row without even scoring a TD (don't hold me to it). They need a new RB and a WR that doesn't drop every other pass.

in order to drop a pass he has to at least catch it for a split second, edwards cant even get that far with a pass.

The Browns are banking on potential for their offense. The potential of Braylon to return to his 07 form and the potential of Brady Quinn. They had 17 sacks defensively all season. They need players in the "TRENCHES!!!!!"

true, they werent as successful last year and their Oline isnt near what it used to be. But both parker and mendenhall were hurt most the year and I'm thinking they will improve off last years numbers. Again, i don't think they will go this route but i understand it atleast. I'm thinking they will end up getting whoever they think is the better pass rusher, brown or orakpo. Also could trade down and get better value and more picks

I agree - I dont think Denver would trade up for 2 spots. But if NY or TB do, it would be with a team in front of us more likely than with us. Buffalo doesnt pose as big a threat to take a QB as we do.
I think its possible it wont be Sanchez but Stafford that falls to us.

I'd be satisfied with Sanchez. Make no mistake, our #1 need is a QB. There's no reason to pass on a potential franchise QB if you don't have one.

While I agree that you don't pass up a potential franchise qb when you don't have, qb is not even close to our #1 need.

I am not sure I agree with that but I guess it depends on how you look at it
If you put a franchise qb on this team, they make the playoffs. Not sure if you could say that about any other position.
Having said that, improving the pass rush is huge need as well and if Marvel Smith is injured again, whoever plays qb will need to learn to duck and cover.
