not drafting a player with their allotted time so the Rams and Chiefs can take their player first. They want to do that so they don't have to pay the money for the first overall pick. I remember a few year ago the Vikings were picking 7th but they let two teams make their picks before they drafted Kevin Williams. I think if they decide to do that, the player the end up drafting will holdout just so they can receive 1st pick money.

I don't have a link but I just heard it on NFL Network.

so you are implying that they want to trade down a couple slots? I think it would be smart, IF the rams/chiefs want a QB. It is a possiblity, and i think it would be smart. Many #1 overall picks do not pan out [I]as we all know[I]. They could fall back a couple slots and go with Mark Sanchez for less $$. Either way they do need a QB. Also, didn't they just pick up Julian Peterson? VERY nice pick up. Lions may win a game or 2

Shows you how absolutely screwed up the system is. I hope with the new CBA they develop a slotted rookie cap ala the NBA.

How funny would it be if the draft was 2 hours in and no players were chosen yet?

They'd be stupid to do it.

No one ever does this with the first round pick, the Fish were rumored to do this last year. It's a stupid tactic, coming off of a 0-16 season the lions would be foolish to bring more negative attention to themselves by missing the #1 overall pick because they thought it would be "Fiscally responsible".

Honestly if the Lions want to be seen as an actual organization they will get their guy under contract before the draft, and in camp on time.

Would that actually work? If they plan on taking Stafford, might as well.

I actually think its a pretty good idea if the following criteria is met:

1. If they cant get a deal done leading up to the draft with their top prospect.

2. If they are looking for a tackle and honestly grade Smith and Monroe even and thus dont care which they get why not? If you throw stafford in the mix as a prospect Detroit is interested roughly on the same level as the two Ts I think it will be beneficial to let the clock expire once or twice.

But not with the number 1 overall pick, coming off the worst season in the history of the NFL.
