Every year people whine and complain about the draft. Sometimes, years later, when the player they hated turns into a star they're all "Oh yeah, I loved the pick and he was my guy..." (see Patrick Willis). Other times, well, we've all seen it, no need to rant... So, like every year, I present my "ideal" mock draft for the 49ers because, well, I believe in "vote or shut up:"

10 - BJ Raji, NT, Boston College. The 49ers have lots of lunch pail guys, some of them quite high-level lunch-pail guys. There's nothing wrong with that. You need them or you won't succeed in the NFL. But you also need a few difference makers. Guys that can take games over like Lawrence Taylor or Ronnie Lott used to do on defense, or Montana or Rice on defense... I just don't see our team as having a really dominant player on either side of the ball. Raji (along with Maclin) is one of the two players I think that could fall to us at #10 that has that potential.

Alternates: Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri; Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU.

43 - Connor Barwin, LB, Cincinnati. No doubt a "surprise" pick, to some, as I've not yet written off Lawson. Barwin is a guy who needs some time to grow into the LB position having played 3-years at TE. I think he would be an outstanding prospect to develop as a situational pass-rusher PLUS I think he has the size necessary to play TED along side Willis OR replace Lawson should Lawson not take the next step in his needed development.

Alternates: William Beatty, OT, Connecticut; Phil Loadholt, OT, Oklahoma

74 - Rashad Jennings, RB, Liberty. Small school product, but he's probably the best of the 'larger' running backs available on Day 2.

Alternates: Rashad Johnson, FS, Alabama; Derrick Williams, WR, Penn St.

111 - Kyle Moore, DE, Southern California. Big program guy with a 3-4 DE body who needs time to bulk-up and develop NFL skills. Not a pass rusher, more of a rotational player.

Alternates: Mike Wallace, WR, Ole Miss; Stephen McGee, QB, Texas A&M

146 - Kenny McKinley South Carolina. Another vertical threat who needs time to develop. If he can put on 15lbs without losing ability, I like his upside and skill-set more than Wallace whom I have as an alternate at 111.

171 - Johnny Knox, WR Abilene Christian. Another small, fast WR.

184 - Sammie Lee Hill, DT, Stillman. A small school guy. Nice athlete, needs work. Could be a "steal" if he works out.

219 - Bear Pascoe, TE, Fresno St. We need a new blocking TE and that's what he is...

244 - Brandon Hughes, CB, Oregon St. . Move him to FS and give him his shot there.
