As much as it pains me to make yet another Taylor Mays thread, I'd like to see a poll on the guy. There are a lot of people who think he'll be Ronnie Lott, Sean Taylor, and Ed Reed all rolled into one, and then a lot of us who think he'll be the next Roy Williams. There seems to be very little middle ground on the subject...it needs a poll to see where the board stands on this.

eric berry is the next ed reed, and taylor mays is a little worse then that

Taylor will be a great SS. Berry picks-up the ball in flight much better.

I don't think he's bad, I just don't think he's worth a first rounder with the 49ers current roster.

He's way overrated. He hits big, but can't tackle to save his life. Not a supporter.

I think he'll be a better faster version of Roy Williams, but still doesn't mean I see him as a FS.

are you kidding me?! he's a beast and can easily start and play as SS next year. Michael Lewis is solid, but is definately on the way down. We need a threat in the secondary, someone to put fear into the opposing WRs. The last punishing safety we had was Tony Parrish!
Keep in mind guys we DO have two 1st round picks next year as of right now. Why not utilize that and get someone like Mays? We'd still be able to acquire other needs with the other #1.

he's overrated... but he's not horrible... well, he would've been a bad pick as the FS that everyone wanted to draft him as this year when we didn't know he'd go back to school...
but I think he's a good 2nd round SS prospect

Rather have Eric Berry than Taylor Mays.

OLB or SS, I'd rather have him playing OLB in the NFL.
His speed and ability to hit would make any 3-4 team better.

Roy Williams
Roy Williams never ran a 4.28 40.

Yea, but unlike Mays, Roy Williams actually made plays in college. Roy Williams gets joked on around here but there was a point in time when he was an absolute beast.

Neither did Taylor Mays... Ah USC spring practices...

He'd be a tampa-2 linebacker.
I'm sure he'll be a very good SS in the league, but he doesn't make near enough plays on the ball to be a first round center-field safety.

With speed!!!!! People need to understand that he is the next Roy Williams but WAY faster. So he will be better than Roy

I like him, but I think he is still pretty raw. I want to see him keep improving on his game. My hope is he plays more aggressive. Starts to take some risks instead of just playing deep center. My concern is he might grow out of safety and into 43 OLB. We will see.

how bout the next Julian Peterson? I don't think he stays at safety in the NFL, but he has huge potential at linebacker.

I think you mean 43 team better. See in a 43 he has a chance to be a good WLB like Thomas Davis in Carolina.
But in a 34 he would be awful. He simply dos not have the pass rush moves, strength, weight, or technique to be any sort of pass rusher.
We are projecting to a year from now, so anything is possible. I mean he is 6'4". If he could add about 20 pounds, he could be a nice 3-4 OLB prospect.

WTF? R U kidding? Barring injury, he'll be a top 10 pick. Maybe top 5. Would've been this year, too.
Saying he's a 2nd rd prospect destroys any credibility you may have had in regards to your evaluation of college players and draft knowledge...
It's like saying Crabtree or BJ Raji was a 2nd rd prospect.
And for the record I'm a ND fan...

After seeing what Troy Palamalu turned into it's hard for me to doubt an athletically freakish safety from USC

Oh Em Gee! what will I ever do?!?! The Douche won't ever respect my opinions!!!
Maybe I should be overrating a guy who has 4 INT's and 1 FF in 3 years in college so the Douche will agree with me...

Taylor Mays stats in 3 years at USC:
180 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 4 interceptions, 10.0 average, 0 TD
Eric Berry stats in 2 years at Tennessee:
158 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 12 interceptions, 40.6 average, 3 TD
And in the last two years, Mays has totaled 1 (one) interception to Berry's 12. And last year, Mays had 0 while Berry had 7.
I'm just saying is all.

I don't want Taylor Mays because he isn't a playmaker and doesn't wrap up properly. Besides me need a FS far more than a SS.

That's one of the first things I noticed about him. He thinks he can always go in with the shoulder and not wrap up. You try doing in that to Steven Jackson and he won't even use a move, he'll just run straight through it.

I don't doubt that Berry could be the better of the two, but do you really have no faith in Mays as a safety or do you believe he is the 2nd best in the '10 draft?

I believe he is the 3rd best safety in the draft, very close to 4th. He's just shown too little to me as an actual football player to rank him any higher.

Assuming the Raiders pick before us, they will most likely take Taylor Mays after his performance at next years combine. Leaving Eric Berry for us hopefully. Taylor mays will be a great SS but Eric Berry will be the playmaking FS that we have been looking for.

Taylor Mays is actually right around Steven Jackson's size, but faster. And given that despite his size, Jackson's not the most physical runner, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get blown up by Mays.

I know there are some serious Ram haters on this board but come on. At least try and get close to the truth.
