Foote said he met "everybody" at Lions headquarters in Allen Park, Mich., earlier in the day and that his agent, Ken Kremer, was working on completing a deal.
"They offered me something," Foote said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "I'm going to be wrestling with it tonight because they're going back and forth with my agent as we speak. Playing in Detroit is definitely my first choice, but we'll see how it goes."
All of a sudden, the Lions front 7 might not be so bad.

Their d-line stinks and so does their secondary, but thats a really good LB crew they got.

Well at least they're starting to address the Defense correctly for once. They upgraded the linebacking corps with [possibly] Foote and signing Peterson. Also, the addition of Louis Delmas at safety is huge. The signing of Henry isn't too shabby either, he's not great, but better than Leigh Bodden and whatever scrub defensive back they had.

Delmas played at a small time college. He'll have a hard time adjusting. Apparently Daniel Bullocks hasnt been bad, but when you're a good player on that D, it doesnt say much.
DE Cliff Avril is a very good player. Other than that, their line is really bad.

Agreed. They haven't really addressed this line besides the signing of Grady Jackson.

Sims, Peterson, and Foote wouldn't be a bad LB corps. I gotta give Jim Schwartz some credit for building that defense the right way.

Schwartz didn't build the defense..yes he's adding to it but he didn't build it. Year before the 0-16 season their defense did pretty well for the first half of the season and that's why that team won games...I was not a fan of Marinelli but Schwartz isn't deserving of defensive credit at this point in time...

No he didn't draft Sims or Avril but he traded for Peterson, Anthony Henry, and now he might bring in Foote. In the draft they got Delmas, DeAndre Levy, Sammie Lee Hill, and an underrated Zack Follet in the 7th round. That's why I'm saying he deserves some credit for the defense.
The starting defense could look like this to start the season:
* New Additions
DE: Dewayne White
DT: Chuck Darby
DT: Andre Fluellen
DE: Cliff Avril
WB: Ernie Sims
MB: Larry Foote*
SB: Julian Peterson*
CB: Anthony Henry*
CB: Phillip Buchanan* or Ramzee Robinson
FS: Louis Delmas* (R)
SS: Daniel Bullocks
It's not the best defense but it's a definite upgrade from last year

Good LB core?
For what scheme? Peterson and Simms on the outside in the 3-4? Nope you'd see Avril likely at one of these spots and one of those guys on the bench. Dizon or Lennon as an ILB? You gonna put Foote in the 4-3?
This team like every team switchig schemes is just duct taping this team together. Just like with the Niners most of the guys landed this year are intended to be stop gap fixes and they wont be on the team 3-5 years from now. This will continue to be one of if not the worst D in the league. Thats what happens when you trade away a player (redding) who would have excelled in your new scheme for a player (peterson) who's really strictly a 1 scheme guy who wasnt worth the contract the last team gave him.
If you dont add Foote into the equation, the LB core isnt that much better than it was last year even with Peterson, add in Foote who would have to play in the 3-4 and you instantly make that position group a liability on the field. I fail to see what all the hype is about.....yet. I like their draft, and some of the moves but, I dont see one player they signed so far that is going to make much of an impact this year.

Good Question, Who's the defensive coordinator in Detroit?

It's an upgrade on paper but Larry Foote didn't help Pitt on passing downs so he's not truely an upgrade himself. Like I said Marinelli put together a good defense for the team that had a decent chance at the playoffs 2 years ago but faltered. Here you have someone giving credit for moves on paper it's the same as calling the Cowboys super bowl contenders despite 0 playoff wins in 10 years and not even making the playoffs last year despite the beautiful roster...so no Schwartz gets zero credit for anything at this point in time...

IMO the problem with detroit's D happened when Matt Millen let Shaun Rodgers be traded to the browns..

Foote is set to sign the deal Wednesday for what is believed to be considerably less than the $2.885 he would have made for the Steelers. He reportedly turned down a two-year deal with the goal of rehabbing his value as the Lions MIKE linebacker and earning a more lucrative long-term deal next offseason.

But the D was terrible even with Rogers.
It'll be interesting to see how Schwartz does w/ Detroit since he was the runner up for the 49ers job back when Nolan was hired. So far, so good.

And how is that Rogers fault? He was literally the only making plays on that D.

I think they started to improve once Simms got comfortable. Like i said Martz last year there the defense had a great start but finished like Denver...talent was there but conditinion didn't seem to be there so the defense faltered down the stretch...

The talent was not there.
They were forcing turnovers and their offense put a lot of pressure on opponents. When their passing game slowed down and the D stopped forcing TOs, they came back down to earth.
