View Full Version : Suggestions needed for Sports Bar

After many years of talking about it – I have finally built my home sports bar….indulge me a second, I would like to repeat that….I have finally built my home sports bar – I love saying that!

OK, onward. This of course is a 99% 49ers sports bar – there will be some other teams represented. KC and Oakland come to mind (for some obvious reasons), but I am sure I will also find room for Tiger Woods as well.

Anywho, over the years I have collected memorabilia – a lot if it. 8x10’s, helmets (large and mini’s) Jerseys, books etc. all signed. I am utterly stumped on how or where to begin to display my treasures….I need some help. There are probably forty 8x10’s thay I am not sure how to hang, scattered or on one predominate wall, structured or haphazardly.

Does anyone have any photo’s they could share of their 49ers memorabilia that’s on display?

My wife and I are still unboxing my stuff (some has been boxed for 7 or so years, waiting on this room). So we are still finding some things – this morning I found my Sports Illustrated with Steve Young and Jerry Rice holding up the Lombardi Trophy, signed by both of them – one of my favorite items. I am thinking of placing this in the middle of all the 8x10’s….I need some suggestions or preferably photo’s of what other people have already done.

I can suggest getting a good sound system that is for playing the GAME! I'm tired of going to "sport bars" that play pop music while you're trying to watch the game.

this and a big *** flat screen!! a dart board is always good for a sports room too, just dont put it next to the tv or your memorabilia obviously, lol...

I have friend that uses a huge projection screen instead of a widescreen, it's bigger, cheaper and just rolls up after you are done so it doesn't take up much space.

Hey - ok, for the replies thus far....

I have installed in-wall speakers, and a 47" 1080P LCD 120hz on the wall with direct TV running to it that includes the Sunday Ticket. I have 2 high end Polks, and one top end Boston Accoustic Sub & amp and its all powered by a 150 watt Onkio....TV and Sound kicks ***.

Middle of the room is brand spanking new Brunswick pool table -- so its all about the memorabilia on the walls :-) I'll drop pictures soon.....

OK, here is a link to a picture thus far.

The room is larger than this photo makes it look - its 23' by 21' with a notch out for a fireplace in the ajoining room (that's the wall the TV and in-wall speakers are mounted on)

Anyway....so that's the set up - now I need idea's on how to place my 49er goodies on the walls...any thoughts, or better yet - pictures ?

My brother actually made one himself after doing some research on what would be the best material to use and best for viewing. It's made of like linoleum or counter top material and it's about 98 inches!!! Huge! And he has two projectors, one which he bought, the other one he won, worth about $9,000, it is soooo awesome to watch sports and movies, I was just salivating.......

I don't have everything framed that I want to, actually very few of the items are, but feel free to take a look through it. There are a couple jerseys in shadow boxes that might give you an idea.

Fricker has a nice set up with his items, they are all nicely framed, I believe they are posted in the memorabilia forum. Scroll through the pages on here, take a look and something may catch your eye.

Thanks for the links. Fricker does have a nice set up....I like the action figures, I don't think I have any of those at all.

I think I should hang my head in shame - I don't recall having any Bill Walsh memorabilia, I might be wrong. My wife and I will begin the project this weekend,so hopefully I will be back with some updated pictures. thanks for the idea's !!

Nice! Made me laugh.

I'm trying to buy a home and can't find any in my price range that have a media/lounge room.

Its my goal to build a room.

My advice:

Make sure you go to a nice frame store and get layered mats for your frame-able stuff. They will tell you about the different type of glass you should get to protect your stuff.

Big flat screen with surround sound system

Bar - maybe keg-o-rator

nice comfortable couch

Nice size room. I'd say keep it spread out with room to add items to each wall later. Nothing worse than looking at one of the same thing on one wall only. The other option since you mentioned golf and other teams could be ¼ - ½ of wall space dedicated to those items with ½- ¾ for 49ers memorabilia.

I like the idea of a locker along a wall or two. Sometimes you can find a double sports locker for sale from a local college. If you close it up with UV protected glass or a see through door you can rotate a display of jerseys if you have several. It also displays helmets, cleats and other items as well. Having s see through door prevent dust and the ability to change the display. More unique than a normal display case.

You mentioned a fireplace or mantle. A nice golf display above that always looks good imo plus if you have less golf stuff than Niners its less space to take up.

Either way good luck, have fun, and it can always be redone. Oh yeah and post pictures of the end result. And take pictures of the process for you to keep as well.

That's going to make a nice room. I would get rid of that rug though. The rest is on you, it's your room, you're the one that is going to have to see it every day and its your buddies that will be enivious of you. I am building one myself and I am close to getting it done. I'll take some pics and put em on my profile so you an see what mine looks like. It was my garage that I decided to make into a Niners! bar room. I walled off the washer and dryer. Almost got all the carpeting down. I have a pool table in there and my drums, I even already have my barstools, I just need to build my bar and the room will be complete. I am going to build it myself so I can make it exactly how I want and make it unique. I am going to stain and then varathane the hell out of it and in the front I am going to counter sink it enough so I can put my pennants on the front and cover it with a peice of plexigalss. But basically, it's your bar bro, s o make ut uniquely yours!

nice room. the color doesnt exactly scream sports bar. get the walls a different color and your good IMO.. of course all of this is mainly preference and ill never see the room in person so take it as you wish.

but i know with the sound setup you have all that wont even matter. i can imagine the sound of all those together...

I would darken the walls. Maybe go with a hunter green and darken the wooden paneling, although the dark hardwood and a dark green upper wall might look really cool with the bright white contrast in the wood.

The rugs gotta go. Definately need more TVs. Maybe get 4 smaller lcds and put 2 on top of the big one and 2 on bottom. Then you can watch 5 games at a time.

Kegerator, Wet bar, dartboard and possibly shuffleboard table would be legit. Definately need a couple tall bar tables with stools, and of course some memoriabilia. If it were me there would be neon signs and bar mirrors as well.

thats my .02

Had some down time due to a health issue...I have kicked its butt and I am back !

I started with pictures - this weekend I will be building shelving for helmets, footballs, figures, trains/planes/trucks, plates, all the 49ers gear I have been collecting.

Ok, so some don't care for the paint or the rug or the fancy aspect of the room. Well, to that I remind you -- I am married with children. My wonderful wife permit me to build this room on the first floor of our home (this is not a basement deal). She has also not stopped me from spending money like a drunken sailor - all she asked is that when I am finished the room doesn't look like a teenage hangout. I sort of think I accomplished that. I guess there's always a little give and take.

Ok, how come I can't post a picture here ? I really wanted to share the start of the first wall -- aarrgghhh

Ok thanks, I uploaded online - I had used the "manage attachments" button at the bottom, every time I tried to upload it said I exceeded my limit.

Anyway – this is my start. The center is my sports illustrated with Young and Rice embracing after winning the superbowl. Both have signed over their bodies – young on the left and rice on the right, which is why their respective jerseys are hung where they are.

I have more signed photo’s to collect – we want to represent all teams in the room. To start me off on this task I have: Rice in Oakland (can be seen at top right), Montana in KC and YA Tittle in NY. Can you suggest any others? Of course there are players over the years I respected regardless for the crap *** team they played for – those will go up regardless. Thanks for our input !

JEALOUS! I've been trying to get the wife to let me take over the family room and convert it into a 49ers room. No luck yet. Great items. Looks a little crowdy though for such a big wall. But do love the Sports Illustrated with the two jersey frames.

Hello friends.

I have uploaded pictures of what I hung and what I still need to hang here:

http://public.fotki.com/CrimsonGhost/temp/

There is more I have not unboxed yet.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated !! I have particular trouble with the windows still – just not sure what to do. I have one single window and one double window – one friend suggested tinting them.

Thank you for the kind remarks. To reply to some – I have just one TV up so far, it’s a 56” plasma with $2,000 worth of high end Polk and Boston acoustic speakers surrounding it – Sunday ticket already piped to it….my wife is the BEST ! hopefully, more TV’s to come in the future – but remember, the wife has permitted my 49er obsession in stride ! and this is all on the first floor of my home (no basement thing here)

Oh, the cramped pics on the large wall – that’s because there is so much more yet to be hung, and I plan on continuously adding things over the years.

As you look at those pics – the tee-shirt will be hung near the door with a sharpie for all to sign as the enter my bar. This is where they can give prop’s to their team. BTW, I live north of Philadelphia – please let me know what you think of my idea ;-)

Quick edit -- I forgot, the pic of the 6 month old is my now 11 year old son - that's a Jerry signature helmet he's wearing !!

Looks real nice. You do need a couple of more tvs. Have them be smaller and on swing arms so you can shift them to other parts of the house. For players on other teams I would go Lott with the Jets.

I havn't found the right Ronnie Lott item yet - still looking, there is a signed mini helmet but he want's 120 for it.

Any other teams I can represent with ex 49er players ?
