This is not a joke.

anyone want to add any punchlines?

This will be a good thing for Dhani Jones since he now he will have 2 TV shows.

They suck but they do have some interesting characters and they probably will be more entertaining than the Cowboys.

HBO picks Bengals for Hard Knocks

CINCINNATI (AP) -- The star-crossed Bengals are about to become HBO's latest stars.

The cable channel and NFL Films chose one of the least successful and most dysfunctional teams of the past 18 years for its next "Hard Knocks" training camp series.

"We just think there's an interesting mix of personalities," NFL Films president Steve Sabol said Thursday.

It will be very personality-driven, given the team's lack of success and national profile. The Bengals (4-11-1) were so uninteresting to the NFL's schedule makers that they got no prime-time games this season.

HBO wasn't put off. Even though the Bengals have had only one winning record since 1991, they could provide some interesting subplots for the five-episode program that begins Aug. 12 and airs each week:

--Will camera-shy owner Mike Brown let down his guard and provide glimpse of how he runs the team?

--Will HBO have to change the name of the program from "Hard Knocks" to "Chad Talks ... And Talks ... And Talks... "?

--Can coach Marvin Lewis use the exposure to resurrect the Bengals' image?

"Your exposure is based on you being successful," Lewis said. "If you're not successful, you get no exposure."

Lewis was the point man in getting the Bengals a few rare hours in the cable TV schedule. NFL Films had approached him about doing "Hard Knocks" in the past, but he turned it down because he didn't think his team was mature enough to handle it.

Now, he thinks it can.

"Once we're broadcasting to 50 states and 30 million subscribers have access to this, the Cincinnati Bengals will take on a more national scope," HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg said. "We've seen that."

"Ocho Cinco will be in this show, don't worry about that," Greenburg said.

why teams agree to this is beyond me. nothing good can come of this for the Bungals.

No sane owner in this economy should turn down the free publicity.

The first season with the Ravens was best since you had a team that just won a championship and they had guys like Shannon Sharpe, Rod Woodson, Tony Siragusa, etc.

I will watch this show for sure.

Nobody cares about the Bengals. This way they get national exposure in a reality TV show. People may become fans of some of the players and buy some Bengals merchandise or attend a game because of it. Mass exposure to your brand is never a bad thing.

What is the worst that can happen? The nation thinks your management stinks and your team sucks?

Not much to risk on their part.

It would be horrible for the team if they did this for the Niners, but can you just imagine how sick it would be to see HD clips of training camp and input from Patrick Willis, Haralson, Clements, Gore, Robinson, Hill etc? It would be so awesome.

I wished it would be the Raiders this year

Too bad we don't have enough nut jobs on the 49ers, else we might have a shot at being on this show

The Raiders would be good.

they could model it after "The Office" where they can show Al Davis meeting with Tom Cable and Cable could discuss his point of view through a single camera and why he should coach the team.

Boomer Esiason thinks they could be the 2008 Cardinals

First, the good news for Cincinnati Bengals fans: Boomer Esiason thinks there's no reason why the Bengals can't be this year's Arizona Cardinals.

Now for the reality: Plenty of questions remain.

"With the three wide receivers they have (Chad Ochocinco, Laveranues Coles and Chris Henry) and the quarterback they have, they can be as exciting as the Cardinals offensively if they get things rolling right," Esiason said.

But the former Bengals quarterback, who still holds four team records from his 10 seasons here (1984-92, '97), is concerned about the maturity of first-round pick Andre Smith and the team's overall psyche, especially if they have another bad start.

Said Esiason of Smith: "While he was a good player in college, he had some really wacky things happen to him around the combine. You've got to make sure the guy you're giving the money to is going to earn that money and not in any way shape or form disappoint you.

"I worry about Carson Palmer because that's his right tackle and they're asking that kid to step on to the field and go up against some pretty good pass rushers. Whether they try to run the ball with Cedric Benson or whatever they do, it's still going to be a passing team with Chris Henry, Laveranues Coles and Ochocinco."

"They have to get off to a good start because when you have wacky players, those wacky players get really wacky when you start losing," Esiason said. "I think there are players that are mentally strong on this team, the coaching staff is mentally strong, but I think the first sign of negativity there are players on this team that will just completely jump out of the foxhole."

As a former franchise quarterback, Esiason empathizes with the trials of Carson Palmer. Esiason called Palmer one of the top five quarterbacks in the league.

While Palmer has looked good in recovering from last year's elbow injury, Esiason notes that it is Palmer's supporting cast that will ultimately determine the team's success.

"It's not just the offense. It's the defense, the special teams, it's everything," Esiason said. "It's the organization and the mindset. Hopefully that's something that (head coach) Marvin Lewis can continue to try to work on and fix and bring a positive attitude to."

As for the rest of the AFC North, Esiason sees Pittsburgh and Baltimore as the favorites. In the conference, he has New England as the team to beat with the Steelers and Indianapolis as the next-best teams.

Besides the Bengals, he thinks the Jets could be a surprise team while Kansas City, with Matt Cassel, and Buffalo, with Terrell Owens, will be worth watching.

Anyone watch the first episode?

The first episode was better than any of the 2008 Cowgirls episodes.

if you thought last years shows were better...

Child Please!!

Felt sorry for Reggie Kelly and his knew injury.

I hope Chris Pressley makes the team.

Looks like its gonna be another great season...They seem to be getting hit hard by injuries so early on in camp. Dude popped his achelies and the TE left on a backboard! Those are pretty serious things to be happening 10 days into camp
