I love the four FIVE MINUTE QUARTERS demo, it's the biggest jump I've seen in a Madden game in a looong time. I'm really pumped for madden this year :perfect10:

Ill have to judge the full game. But the AI is atrocious and the game is extremely slow.
For a 1GB download I expected a lot more than being able to play the Giants or Cowboys for four minutes. Oh whats that? I went to overtime so I was given an etxtra minute? WOWWW!!!!
Madden again proves how bad of a game it is. But people accept it because it is the ONLY nfl game out there. EA bought those rights because they knew they can easily be beat. ESPN 2K5 is still the only good football game I have played.

Meh, game feels just like 2009 with some new animations.
I expected "fishing" from you
Probably your only post where you actually say they truth
They're not reinventing themselves year after year like they used to. If they kept the game the same because they wanted to put their focus on the AI, I would understand, but it's really not the case. I see no reason to buy it every year anymore.

What they REALLY should do is make Madden every two years and just put out roster updates during the skip.
Of course thats if these developers understood how to make a good game. But thats asking too much :falldownlaugh:

I got the 5-minute quarters demo featuring the Arizona Cardinals vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers from pre-ordering the game at GameStop.
There were a few minor graphical bugs that I noticed (that I'm sure they've ironed out), but aside from that, the game play is pretty sound. The game speed is noticeably slower, but that's a good thing because it's much more realistic. As a result, players with game-breaking speed like Chris Johnson will have a much bigger impact.
I could be crazy, but from the game play videos that I've seen, and from the demo that I've played (featuring Kurt Warner and Ben Rapistberger), it appears that different quarterbacks have unique throwing styles akin to their real life counterparts. Hopefully this turns out to be true.
If anyone has any questions about the demo, feel free to ask.

:falldownlaugh: How does EA not have that choice? And actually I just recently switched my major from business to criminal justice so after just 2 years of learning, I would still recommend this strategy. Most sequels take about 2-4 years in development and those are the FAR superior games. Taking an extra year leads to a much better game with more new features and most likely better reveiws which would most likely lead to better sales. Also, if you charge for content like the yearly roster updates(EVERYONE will buy those), you have that and also the people who will still buy the game. Its EA, they could WELL afford one more year due to the amount of money they bring from there other games.

They did slow the gameplay down, but you can change the game speed in the options. I like the new feel to it looks much more realistic, but it is a little bit too slow for me.
Good eye on the qb's, I read somewhere that they have over 20 different motions to choose from!
I tried playing the free demo last night and its too bad they got so cheap on it. Stuck in the snow, one minute quarters, all kinds of adv. banners... I can see why you were so upset jto. I got the 5 minute quarter demo first and it is awesome. Playing a full game really lets you get a feel for all the changes in the new madden.

Ok ok. Ill stop bashing for a little bit because I do think its a fun game to play with people. I do like some of the animations. The QB would slip in the snow. I also like how you can change the speed. The only things that sucks is when you play with someone who plays at a different speed, you wouldnt be used to it.

Its just a demo. Im sure they will iron out bugs after. Although, there are always more bugs that pop up. AS long as they release a patch in due time, Ill be ok with it.
Im sure Madden 2010 will be all round better than 09. Or so I read anyways. Ill buy it, regardless.

Since you do seam to like 2k games so much you'll probably like Madden this year. They even addmitted they looked at 2k and made sure to top them in every aspect. I suggest putting five bucks down for the pre-order and getting the superbowl demo, it's very fun and you can just get your five bucks back if you don't feel like buying it. :)

worthless to judge a game by a demo...
i can wait for retail personally. if im not playing as the niners it just feels dumb.
i also agree they should spend extra time actually improving the game. game development is a process that is only helped by longer testing phases and multiple chances to add creative input. madden is in a very tight schedule due to rigid yearly releases which is why it has taken them 5 years to make a true next-gen madden.

No dumba$s, EA's executives have that choice. Product/project managers along with software developers often do not. And yes, taking more time will lead to a better game but will likely lead to less profits. The roster updates are all well and good except for the fact that some people simply don't bother with online play. And for those who do, it would cut the player base in half, ones who are updated, and ones who are not. And no, not everyone will buy those. And just because they can afford to do something, doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do. This is why EA is the second-biggest game publisher and you are just some kid who dropped out of business, thinking he knows better than they do.

The pocket I do like better in the 2k series but you can't honestly sit here and tell me the passes that sail up higher then punts are a realistic passing game. Animations and jostling between WR and DB EA has put a lot of work into and I'd say they finally rival 2k in it. On top of that the running game I have seen from the demo and videos is the best of any football game to date in Madden 10.
So many people are in a "hate on EA no matter what" mode. Madden 09 wasn't that great of a leap from Madden 08 in anything but straight player visuals. Madden 10 is a upgrade from Madden 09 in almost every aspect- presentation, visuals, less and less of the stupid animations. The best tackling system to date, yea 2k still has some animations on them here but 3+ player tackles where the ball carrier can still fight for more yardage is a step above anything 2k ever did.
To the people who don't like the speed of the demo... you can speed the game up to be just as fast as Madden 09 if you like via options if you like that unrealistic NFL blitz style speed.

I tried to like APF but I just couldn't. Something about using a 13-year old graphics engine just doesn't sit well with me. That and the game was ridiculously shallow in terms of modes. To it's credit, it did do alot of things well. Unfortunately, it was nowhere near enough to compete with an NFL license and an actual franchise mode.

because about 5 years ago ESPN 2K5 was a better football game than Madden 05. We knew it, and EA Sports sure as hell knew it. so they spent a lot of money all at once on the NFL naming rights. that way they could ease off and spend less money on developing a better game for years to come.

Yes that is the downfall. The game is only made for online play and league play. There is very dedicated people in leagues at http://2ksports.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=77. I like the game play much better than Madden. I think Madden should throw away their current engine because the players don't have weight when moving which I don't like. I am still amazed that they still haven't add double team pass blocking.

actually what was making the 2k series and the espn series stay afloat was their willingness to cut profits early on. sadly one can only speculate that 2k wouldn't have slown progression over the yrs. 2k did horrible with baseball but good with basketball. but with football they actually only added certain presentations the madden used 2 have and people call it ingenuity lol

I'm not a fan of the 2k series by any means but NFL 2k5 took presentation to a whole new level and it was nothing Madden ever had and it took until now with Madden 10 for them to rival it.
Everyone who isn't a fanboy knows NFL 2k5 skewed the market with a 19.99 starting price and a 1 month head start on Madden... yet Madden still won the sales war that year. If it took a $30 dollar price cut to even dent the madden sales numbers I really doubt EA felt "threatened" by 2k. It can be your opinion 2k put out a better game, but it wasn't really competition for EA in the least.

I strongly disagree. Even if 2k didn't win in terms of sales figures, they still took a big chunk of the market share. You're equating not winning to not being relevant, and you're wrong. Think about it: the majority of people would only buy one football game per year. In this case, every $20 for 2k Sports equaled a $60 loss for EA Sports.
If they didn't feel 2k was competition in the slightest, what is the point of buying an expensive exclusive rights license? They didn't do it for ****s and giggles, that's for sure.

Madden was $49.99 last gen not $60. By the same account you can say 2k lost $30 for every NFL 2k5 they sold. I highly doubt they even made more profit off it then ESPN NFL Football the year before which had abysmal sales but normal pricing.
For the record once again... the NFL wanted to sell a exclusive license. Lets not even take into account the fact they came to EA first... EA had the choice to buy it or they would be in the same boat 2k is in right now.
Yea that would of been a real smart business move on EA's part to lose the NFL license. 2k sports had little to do with it, EA little to do with it as well. Blame the NFL.

That is exactly my problem with the current Madden. When you play the ps2 version, you can feel the weight of the players and their speed. The ps3 players feel like they are floating across the field and don't have the same grounded feeling.

LOL dropped out of business? I was actually doing really well. I just decided to switch my major because law enforcement is much more suited for me.
If we are going to really argue the business behind the gaming industry well save that for another time. I'm stating that, IMO, I would take a different approach if I even had a choice. So like me. just shut up and wait for Forza 3 :dootdoot:

All the Snickers adverts are REALLY REALLY annoying. It almost sickens me how much advertisements are snaking their way into my beloved videogames. I wish they'd just **** off.
I remember reading an article that if you have an internet connection some games are going to implement live advertising feeds even if your not playing online. Depending on your online profile they will have advertisements to our demographic.

For a 1GB download I expected a lot more than being able to play the Giants or Cowboys for four minutes. Oh whats that? I went to overtime so I was given an etxtra minute? WOWWW!!!!
Actually the new games are on Blu Ray discs which allow for 25 to 50 gb of space. Considering that its no longer on DVD which is only 4.7 to 9gb of space a 1 gb download is pretty small. Not saying Madden is going to take up a full blu ray disc but I do remember the hall of fame edition on 360 was over 2-3 discs.

2 different games and a special features dvd hardly qualifies as a 3 disc game.

So lets say hypothetically speaking Madden 11 is the perfect football game on every level, and theres not one legitimate complaint, what do they do for Madden 12 if theres no improvements?
This is a business move by EA, improving little by little. If they make the best game, theyll have nothing to offer the next year to get people excited. theres something in every new Madden that gets a good number of people to buy or continue to buy Madden.

Think of COD4. It was a ridiculously good game with good ratings acroos the boad, great online play. Then COD5 came out... and womp womp womp. nothing to improve on. Now everyones COD5 is collecting dust while COD4 is still spinning their systems and still selling from stores.

Uhhhh COD4 and COD5 was made by two different development teams. Bad example. Look at modern warfare 1 and modern warfare 2(a much better example) and tell me there is not one good improvement.

assassin creed falls into this a biit but new storylines help. with the nfl and madden there will always be new wrinkles even if subtle

Yes I know that why I said the hall of fame edition had 2-3 discs, because on ps3 it was only 1 disc.
Correction it was the XX Special Edition that had 3 discs. Two for Madden and 1 for Head Coach.

but was also $300 cheaper
i own both and have owned both since they came out and 360>>>> PS3 GAMES AND GAMEPLAY
but i do use the PS3 to watch movies whooptie doo......
but MLB THE SHOW 09 is the best
Exactly! MLB the Show 09 is the Best Baseball game in the world but for Madden, the 360 Xbox is better than PS3. Just more smooth and better controls! Period! I have both so I do know. The Demo for Madden 10 is 5 minute Quarters and I got mine at Gamestop last week.

5 minute quarters with accelerated clock on... More like 2-3 min quarters in reality. I have burned a entire half nearly on a few long drives.

Downloaded to the ps3 version and I liked the feel a lot more. Passing had to use touch a little more and manually catching worked a lot better. Not as easy breaking tackles even with Brandon Jacobs.
Nano blitzes were still apparent as a simple overload gets you in the backfield pretty quickly even with a FB or TE over the blitzing DE or LB.
I usually get both version ps2 and ps3 each year with the ps3 being traded in early may not be the case. Really like the menu screens but don't like the play calling layout with triangle as the right play instead of circle. And circle is used to back out of the play calling screen instead of triangle. Since this is the case it should be a split screen vertically instead of horizontally. Would be more intuitive.

This is why EA is the second-biggest game publisher and you are just some kid who dropped out of business, thinking he knows better than they do.

the circle got me too and i told a friend that a back like jacobs should have been more imposing but i guess if you over do it then people complain the other way

It really didn't feel like weight factored into tackles or momentum. But again I only averaged two possessions on offense and one possession defense after a few tries.
