This is a quote from Morris about WR Sammie Stroughter after last night's game...

Said Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris of Stroughter, a seventh-round pick, "I was a bad head coach for six rounds. This young man has come in here and done nothing but good things for us. We're excited about him. I'm glad he's here and I'm glad I got him when I did."

First off, what kind of message does that say to all of the other guys that you drafted BEFORE the 7th round. Also, I know he's saying it in jest, but why call yourself a bad coach when it's your first season and things already aren't looking to rosy for your team.

A lot of his actions leave me puzzled. I guess I see more of it because I live in Tampa.

Honestly, dude, I think Tampa is in trouble this year. Josh Freeman is not going to get it done, that was a huge reach for a guy who'd go mid round any other year.

The defense is a shadow of its former self. Aaron Sears, the best O lineman, is gone for who knows how long... Kellen Winslow will add some locker room tension. Raheem Morris is such a reach as a coach. It's as if they just followed trends of hiring a) young coaches b) black coaches. I'm not taking shots at Morris because he's black or anything, but good lord, they could have found a better coach.

sammie stroughter is a beast though. I really wished we had drafted him. Just like I really hope we dont miss quizz when he applies for the draft.

They're rebuilding the defensive scheme entirely and trying to fix some parts of the offense. Freeman's obviously a bit of a project but that's why they're taking their time with him to develop him slowly. They're not planning on being Super Bowl contenders this season.

Plus they have a ton of cap room for next year.

That division fight will be between Atlanta and New Orleans. The question is just how much will Delhorrible and Carolina do to give us a high draft pick.

8 in the box should help us.

lol, yea, Morris is not a good public speaker. I am sure he didn't mean to bash any of the other guys we picked because some guys picked before him have also been producing throughout camp and the pre-season games like Roy Miller, Kyle Moore, and Josh Freeman. Stroughter just had an impressive game last night, had a nice return and a nice TD catch in traffic, so I guess Morris was excited about it.

there's a certain wisdom you gain from progressing into your 40's and 50's.

morris seems very sharp and energetic...we'll see if he has the wisdom yet to be a high-level decision maker.

I believe it's called going senile. :)

size matters, i guess, because stroughter is a better football athlete than heyward-bey; he has much better body control and situational awareness--just can do more on the field. not as tall and quick as h-bey, but a player isn't measured by body stats alone.
sammy must have had big character risks, because the on-field skills he has are 3rd round or better.

no, in general, wisdom still trumps senility through your fifties.

they both have equal force during your 60's.

after that, it's a slow degeneration back to diapers and babysitters(caregivers).

i'm sure you read the article about why albert chose dc over slightly more from tb...tb admitted rebuilding year

i'm sure you read the article about why albert chose dc over slightly more from tb...tb admitted rebuilding year Yeah, he said he was uneasy about the rebuilding they're doing, and he also wasn't overly impressed with their fan base.

I have a few good friends who are huge Bucs fans and they were pissed about that.

NFC South is a tough division. The Falcons look settled in for the long haul with Ryan, Turner, White, Gonzalez, and a defense that should improve in the next year or so. The Saints with Brees and their offense are going to be competitive- if they could just get a halfway good defense they'd be fine.

It'll be interesting to see how Tampa fares the next couple of years, because they're really starting over with pretty much everything, from the front office down.

Hiring Morris didn't make any sense. It looks like they just gave up for no apparent reason. I would think that since Morris was the DC at KSUcks while Freeman was there, he would know that Freeman didn't get any kind of direction from that crappy coaching staff.

I hope that they can somehow beat Carolina at least once this year to help out our draft pick.

man @ least give the guy a chance to HC his 1st gm before the torches come out...his resume is no diff than Mike Tomlin...or the surprise hiring of Mike Smith and Tony Sparano...not to many people were jumping up and down @ those hiring and they all had success in yr 1...

Tomlin was the DC of an successful NFL defense. Morris was the secondary coach of Tampa, was promoted to DC and then HC in the same off season. That is why people are questioning him.

It's good that someone finally isn't just hiring the same retreads, but one would think that Tampa would want someone more qualified to coach their team. He has no proven success at any level.

see minn really didn't impress me with tomlin there. stuck two gilbert browns on the dl and it became hard to run on them but still easy to pass. imo it's his personality that makes him a good fit in pitt which is also why it was imperative that he keeps his 'expertise' away from their defense and let lebeau be himself.

on morris as well as indy's coach i see a bad trend of simply hiring a black man cause he has a patient non confrontational personality like dungy.

i don't care abt a coaches skin color but you're too blind to see that i'm complaining that we've gone from qualified coaches getting over looked cause their black to coaches getting a shot simply cause their black. morris and caldwell being hired for being soft spoken dungy clones is akin to having someone give a compliment saying "he's so well spoken"

Tampa will have the #1 pick next year

Denver will have #2

That is a bit of a reach I admit. But both will be top 10 picks next year.
