View Full Version : Cardinals/9ers still not sold out

I know it might have a lot to do with the economy and the Cardinals raising their prices when they couldnt even sell their first playoff game out, but the season opener still has 2k tickets available. Probably all crappy upper levels but it would be awesome to get 2,000 more 9er fans in there. It sounds like only a few games are sold out league wide but I will smack talk glendale every chance I get.

A factual error in your statement:
For the most part, they didn't raise ticket prices. Yes, for some of the "premier" seats (like 50 yard line, lower level), they did, but I know my tickets didn't go up (50-yard line, upper level). So for the average guy, pricing didn't really impact anything.
If you look at the economy, the Phoenix area was one of the hardest-hit NFL markets in the recession. I think that contributes to this issue more than anything else. Still, I think this game is closer to a sell-out than alot of markets and I don't think this will be an issue on Sunday.

A few factual errors in your statement:
The Cardinals must have sold out the playoff game because it was not blacked out locally. If they could televise it, the tickets were sold. And yes, that place was full because it was about as loud as I have ever heard it (NFC Championship game notwithstanding).

Here are your facts:
1. The link to the pool company buying seats up (guess you didn’t know about getting free tickets if you bought some supplies last year) http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/133449
*I actually went to both playoff games and I got 40 yard seats for $20 below face because demand was low*
2. Here is a link only describing season ticket prices rising http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/stories/2009/03/02/daily76.html
They also raised single game pricing but I’m too lazy for a link. Also, a lot of people with club licenses were unable to renew because the Cardinals forced fans to pay them or give them up to someone who would get Super Bowl rights last year.
I have Cardinal season seats but I sell the games that conflict with 9er games so I knew my prices raised for lower level seats which are what most fans want.

Thank you sir, may I have another? :goodpost:
Okay, so the lower bowl prices went up, but according to the box office and ticketmaster, there really are only upper level seats left for this game. So how did raising ticket prices in the lower level impact the 2,000 remaining tix? I think that was the point I was trying to make in my less-eloquent previous post.
I agree it is pretty sorry that this game isn't sold out yet. We sold out both preseason games, so I hope we could at least sell out the first game that really matters.

As a full time ticket broker in the past and still on the side right now, pretty much everyone in that community knows Arizona sports fans are some of the worst when it comes to buying tickets for their teams. The 1st round game last yr was brutal for resellers. The Diamondbacks NLCS two years ago destroyed brokers wallets. Not saying Arizona has bad fans but it seems to me they are much more content staying at home to watch the game than paying to go. Give 90% of the NFL teams a SB game and the next year they sell out immediately.
That being said, Niners home opener has a lot of tickets left too, though it losses some popularity being that it is week#2

It should eventually sell out but I was really getting to the fact that demand isnt what everyone thought it would be this year. Yeah a lot as to do with the economy, i do live in the area afterall. And even though those seats are upper level, that stadium is still pretty sweet compared to other stadiums I have gone. Ill be there to root on the Colts to beat Arizona also this year! And I will wish for a roof over my head when I go to San Fran for the Bears game...burr!

Im not going to lie, Im obiously not a big Cards fan so I will sell my tickets in a second. But you have to admit that for people who had to pay for both Cards playoff games last year in advance, you are sitting there looking at that NFC championship ticket laughing at what you paid...then they got in thanks to philly's win and that ticket was like winning the lottery if you resold it.

I'm not surprised. The Cardinals don't have a very large fan base. Partly because the team has not been very successful historically, and partly because the local population is not very large. Even in the 1st year of their new stadium, the Cardinals sold around 42K season tickets in a 63K seat stadium. The STH base has dropped every year since then even though the team did well last year.
I think that Glaser worked something out with the NFL where a good chunk of the upper level seats are "covered up" in some way so they won't be counted in the final tally when it's being determined if the game will be blacked out, or not. Otherwise, every Cardinals home game would be blacked out just like the Jaguars and the Raiders. Jacksonville even tarped a bunch of their nosebleed seats so their games might have a chance of selling out.

Ya they placed residency restrictions on the purchase of that game. Limited broker supply = higher prices. Still woulda been good either way but a lot of people didnt bother with the time it takes to get around the restrictions for the game.

While it may not be the largest area, it is #12...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_of_United_States_Metropolitan_Statistical_Ar eas
Stats maybe skewed a bit and unlike other areas there arent really any neighboring areas with significant population. Makes it nice going to Phoenix for suns games. You wonder if it would change there if the Cards were a perenial favorite. Suns tickets did pick up slightly after the consecutive steve nash MVP seasons.

Nope only Tards are used in that bubble. And to make the point, a lot of people argue that these events dont sell out in phoenix because the city has the lowest household income per person to support all major teams... It really comes down to being a transplant city with new teams. Look at all the Florida teams, they all struggle and complain about the same things. And being a tards fan, how did you feel about Boldin sitting there at a dbacks game with a dodger hat on? I would have boo'ed him!

this cards fan repost is 100% correct. They only raised the prices of a small number of tickets. Phoenix was hit very hard...just as he said...before the recession it was a booming area and most growing areas that are dependant on future growth are devastated by any recession..

1) Do you have a ticket?
2)Why do you care about a blackout?
3) If you are such a bad *** niner fan in AZ then you obviously have tickets to the game.....if you dont then you are a whiner. Get tickets, go and laugh at the Cards fans that will miss the game or shut it.

do you have a ticket? if so then why do you care if the game is blacked out?
If you have a ticket for the game then what does it matter if the bandwagoner Cards fans dont get to see the game?
If you dont have a ticket then go buy one so you can see the Niners.
I was wrong about the price increase. I know that the 4 or 5 people that I know have season tickets all told me that their seats didnt rise...I guess I jumped to a conclusion.

Alright you appear to be a Cards fan and missed that this thread was a smack talk about how the DEFENDING NFC CHAMPS cant even sell out their home opener because their fans don't care. Yes I live in Arizona and yes I read their news papers so I have seen what people are saying. They even have lower level seats open up right now so its completely sad they cant do it. I guess you missed that point. Living in Arizona I would also MISS the game if I did not go but I am and I also have 9er season seats so I would be pissed if the same thing happens next week at Candlestick for 9er fans. 2,000 open seats is really noticeable and they needed a pool company to buy up extra seats for their wild card playoff game last year.
I also bought season seats to the Cards so I could sell the ones I was going to miss. I'm talking smack with my 9ers jersey on every Cards game that is not on during a 9er game. Unless you are in the upper level, all seats rose by at least $50 in the lower level (so a family of 4 had to pay $200 more this year so they cut back on a seat or 2 and they prevented in game tailgating so people cant be outside the stadium during the games. A lot of familes would switch off who went in and who watched the games outside on the great lawn each week last year) Single game prices went up by even more which is why a lot of single tickets are available. They also made people buy 2 preseason games to buy the packers game so that's why they called the first 2 games a sell out. Their fan base has no reason to even talk smack. Obviously they thought they were going to sell out again this year after going to the Super Bowl but for a million reasons they did not and they did raise their prices knowing the economy was an issue. Link: http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/stories/2009/03/02/daily76.html
This does not include the club seat prices which they forced people to renew during the 2 weeks between the nfc championship and the Super Bowl so they lost people then.:bender:
If you are a 9er fan then start talking. If our season opener was in Jacksonville, I would not be talking smack because they are not coming off a super bowl and talking about how they are the greatest since sliced bread.

It always has been an issue with them even before the economy. Last year they had the pool company come and help them out trying to sell the season opener against Miami. (Which is starting to sound like a trick to sell more pool stuff because its free advertisement every game, including the wild card playoff game last year)! Last year it was the "we cant get Super Bowl tickets with season tickets" excuse (Since they moved from Tempe, season ticket holders were promised a chance to buy Super Bowl tickets when it was in Glendale in 08). This year its the economy...excuses excuses. Still lots of tickets on ticketmaster and on secondary sites so get your butts out their 9er fans! The tailgating thing azempire has going will be awesome alone.:ant::ant:

All I know is that since they have opened their new stadium...they have sold out every game...then toward the end of last year(when the economy started to suck a ton) they started to have trouble.
Hell the Vikings had a local company buy the rest of the tickets in their playoff game last year vs the Eagles.
