View Full Version : Barlow or Tiki: Which NY-area RB is better right now?

Sounds like a dumb question, and you don't want to just up and abandon players who have been studs over the year like Tiki...
Barlow has been in my lineup the past two weeks due to bye weeks to LT and Tiki. In the light of other RBs in the Jets offense rumored to get bigger roles, Barlow has been scoring the TDs -- three of the four weeks this season, he has at least one TD.
Tiki probably has the edge on yardage-gaining ability -- provided the Giants don't fall behind and have to play catch-up with the passing game. That has killed Tiki's stats, and partly why he is TD-less this season. Then there's Brandon Jacobs...
So while Tiki has been a long-term stud for me in my keeper league, I can't deny Barlow's recent streak. But it's about winning now, not winning games from years ago.
The Week 5 games: Jets at Jacksonville, Washington at Giants.
Who would you start alongside LT in the two RB slots?

Tiki will get his....he's not sharing anythin with anybody...his Tds will come
Barlow is only gonna get 30 yards a game sharing with Washington and Houston...

You have LT and Tiki?
FFL's against your ant farm and pet rock don't count....bring these questions elsewhere!

But he's sharing with Brandon Jacobs, who steals his TDs. That can't exactly be ignored. In fact, a lot of NFL teams are doing the RB-by-committee approach.
Robert Smith years ago was awesome, but tended to be bad in fantasy football. Why? Leroy Hoard got all the goal line carries and the TDs and regularly scored more points.
If the Giants will come out of this bye week fine, then I have nothing to worry about. But, if the Giants spiral downhill even more, then what do I do? I need to make sure I have the proper plan in place.

Your comment rubs me the wrong way.
I am not in a scratch league on Yahoo against people who didn't even show up to draft their team. I am in a 14-team dynasty league at my office. You keep three players from the previous season and take them into the next season. Two of them have been RBs in recent years:
-- I was bad one year. The next year's draft, I was able to get then-rookie LaDainian Tomlinson. I've kept him ever since.
-- The last year Tiki was big-time fumbleitis Tiki, I traded for him in mid-season. I needed a starting RB, and someone who was plentiful in RBs needed a starting WR that I happened to have. So I swung a trade and gambled on Tiki. I've kept him ever since.
-- And for what it's worth, my third protected player has usually been a QB. I've had Jeff Garcia during his 49ers run, and now it's Carson Palmer, who I drafted in his first full year as a starter.
So before you sit there and claim I have a pet rock and an ant farm I'm playing against, please consider that people DO have dynasty leagues like mine. It gives a sense of ownership and attachment to a fantasy team rather than starting all over every offseason.

Weeeee.....sorry to offend.
I did not take into account dynasty leagues.

Unless your league is VERY touchdown heavy (what are points per yard and points per TD?), its Tiki and not even close.
Barlow is splitting carries, not gaining a great average, and who knows how long the goal line carries will last. He is also on the road against the best pair of DTs in the league, so cheap TDs are less likely.
Jacobs taking goal line carries is annoying, but Tiki is good for a bundle of yards as well as catches. washington is no pushover but the Giants are at home and coming off a bye, and Tiki's early struggles came against the most murderous part of the Giants' schedule (Indy, Philly, Seattle).

It is okay. And I'm sorry if I upset you with my response, but I admit I was a tad on edge last night.

Yards, that is... but IIRC isn't Brandon Jacobs taking the goal line duties?

20 yards rushing = 1 point
20 yards receiving = 1 point
TDs = 6 points
2-pt. conv. = 2 points
That's the only scoring. No points for touches or no loss of points for fumbles or anything.
I will try Tiki again, since there is a consensus to do that and not start the recently-TD-happy Barlow. I hope the bye week can cure what ails the Giants in their struggling start.

Yes. That's why I mentioned the Smith/Hoard comparison earlier. I used to own Hoard back in the day and won many weeks due to Hoard "stealing" the TDs from Smith.
Yards are nice, but as you can deduce from my earlier post, it takes 120 rushing yards to equal one TD. So Tiki could rush for 100 yards, but if Barlow gets 30 yards and a score, that makes Barlow better.
As I just said, I'll try Tiki again. But I'm definitely wondering about the situation's long-term status.
