10. San Francisco 49ers: Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa
The 49ers have really exceeded expectations thus far, but there is still a huge hole at right tackle. Combined, Adam Synder and Tony Pashos have allowed six sacks in five games. If San Francisco isn't drafting high enough to obtain a top talent like Eric Berry or Sam Bradford, the team will certainly look to find an upgrade at tackle.
18. San Francisco 49ers: Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas
For the first time all season, it was apparent that Shaun Hill was a liability in the 49ers' blowout loss to the Falcons. Hill is great at managing games, but there is no way he'll ever beat a very good quarterback in a shootout.
Ryan Mallett is a strong-armed redshirt sophomore. Because of a possible rookie pay scale in 2011 and the threat of a lockout (let's keep our fingers crossed), Mallett, like many other eligible underclassmen, will declare early. He'll shoot up draft boards with impressive workouts.
50. San Francisco 49ers: George Selvie, DE/OLB, South Florida
The 49ers have only one sack from their rush linebackers. They couldn't get off the field on third down at Minnesota because they couldn't get to Brett Favre. They also couldn't manage a single sack on Matt Ryan. This needs to change.
81. San Francisco 49ers: Jay Ross, NT, East Carolina
Nose tackle is a need; current starter Aubrayo Franklin will be a 30-year-old free agent in March.
Have to say, I'm not a big college football guy... so I don't know much about these guys.

They really think that Selvie will be around in the second round?

Overall position wise id give it a decent grade.. Realistically those are all needs for the team.. Id go with different players.. esp seeing who's left on the board! A really like Baluga, Mallet has a lot of potential but i worry about his pocket awareness (slow feet) and delivery (also slow) Selvie looked amazing his Somp year but really hasen't showed much since he got all that attention.. Ross is a NT.. Hard to judge with the talent he's going against

I would rather grab Mays if he is there and get an OT with the 18 pick, much more then the 5th best QB in a draft class, even if it is a deep class.

Yeah, he could even be there in the 3rd...he's been extremely disappointing. Here's a little write up on him by Tommy from scoutsnotebook.com:
DE George Selvie - USF --- What happened? In the first 6 games of his Sophomore year George had 11 sacks. He was a major force. Since then he has 10.5 in 25 games. That isn't slowing down, it's mashing the brakes with both feet as hard as possible. George isn't a bad player, but he's not the elite prospect that some think. He's less than 250 pounds. He doesn't get off blocks as much as he should. Sure, he gets a lot of attention, but special players still make plays. Go back and watch Dwight Freeney in college. He had all kinds of blockers working on him, but still managed to make play after play. I don't see George as a Top 50 prospect at this point. He's a pure RDE due to his size. Guys like that must get to the QB.

The Xth best QB doesn't mean anything in an average year, and it will mean even less in 2010 with analysts qb rankings being so based on college offenses.
Can't take a SS in the top 15.

Given the choices they have available at our picks, I'd take:
10. Arthur Jones, DT, Syracuse -- I don't know if Bulaga deserves to go that high. I'd rather take a chance on Anthony Davis, who is far more athletic than Bulaga. Jones would shore up our 3-4 LDE position for the next 10 years.
18. Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers -- I seriously doubt Davis would go in the second round if he were to enter the 2010 draft. It's more likely we'd take him with our #10 pick if he were available, and Arthur Jones would be our second first round pick if he were available.
50. Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho -- Again, I doubt Iupati would go this low, but he'd be a no-brainer if he were still available.
81. Colt McCoy, QB, Texas -- Wow! If McCoy were available in the third round like this mock draft suggests, it would be the best value pick in years.
This mock draft is extreme fantasy at its worst. Four first rounders available through three rounds? If we walked away with those picks, I'd be in shock for the remainder of the week.

If the draft went like this, and If I were GM (two unrealistic "If's, but I don't give a ****)
I would trade our 1st 1st (10th overall from CAR) and our 2nd (50th overall) UP to #5 to Draft: Eric Berry.
THEN, I would trade our 2nd 1st (18th overall) back to NE for their 26th and 41st (we'd probably have to throw in our 4th + some)
and then draft Derrick Morgan
and then move up from 41, just a couple spots, with our 5th or something and pick up Anthony Davis
that way we come away with:
5. Eric Berry FS/SS/CB/GOD Tennessee
26. Derrick Morgan DE/OLB Georgia Tech
38*. Anthony Davis RT Rutgers
*= or so
and then either Stephan Virgil (CB from VTech) or Michah Johnson (ILB from Kentucky) with our 3rd pick
and then if I were GM, I would slap Scott McCloughan in the face and say:
"this is how it's done, *****!"

I disagree with both Arthur Jones and Bulaga. Bulaga hasn't been right since he came off the thyroid issue.
His legs haven't looked right and he has looked slow as far as his feet are concerned. He would be smart to stay in school another year to maximize his value if he can't get past the issues he is having currently.
As for Jones, I personally have been more impressed with Oghobaase than I have with Jones. I think Jones is slotted right around where he should be but I would have Oghobaase in the top 15-20.
He is far more consistent with his effort and takes on blockers at a more effective rate than Jones as well. The games I have seen Jones in he seems to be pushed back far to often for my liking.
As for our picks, that would be a pretty bad scenario but I would go with either Charles Brown or Anthony Davis with our first pick. Depends on where we want Staley. I am higher on Davis than he is by a good margin.
Then with the second pick I go Kindle. Maybe it is just me but if we got him in the mid 20's I think he would be a steal.

Assuming the draft unfolded this way, I would approach it more like this:
1st#1--Taylor Mays
2nd#1--Sergio Kindle, alternate Javid Best (I'm torn, we really lack offensive
playmakers and Best would be a big time weapon)
#2--- Hope Ciron Black lasts one more slot to us. Alternate Sam Young
#3--- Colt McCoy (thank you very much to the teams that passed)

I am with you on everything except Kindle.
I am rather high on him and think he is the top 3-4 OLB in the draft.

I don't like that draft much for the Niners. I will admit being prejudiced against Iowa tackles, I would rather they be other teams' mistakes. They are usually good guys that just don't translate to the outside at the next level. I'm not sold on Mallet, and Selvie doesn't do anything unless he is completely unblocked. I had such huge hopes for Selvie after the early hype but he does nothing if a tackle so much as breathes on him. I won't comment on the NT, I haven't seen him play and haven't gotten anywhere near that level of looking at prospects.
Kindle may be a Longhorn that I actually like at the next level, a rare thing. He seems to be playing well and looks like a better prospect as a 3-4 OLB than Rak was.
Just because a guy like McCoy plays qb at Texas it doesn't make him a first round talent. He isn't the first guy to go through there that has had a ton of hype that shouldn't have sniffed the first round. How long has it been since that program has produced an NFL qb worth a ****?

I agree. Selvie is quick with nice moves, but very similar to Lawson in that he is not good at getting off of his blocks and lacks strength.
