Titans | Volek willing to let V. Young learn from him
Mon, 1 May 2006 22:55:12 -0700
The Nashville City Paper reports Tennessee Titans QB Billy Volek currently sits atop the team's depth chart at quarterback while the team decides what to do with QB Steve McNair. With the team drafting QB Vince Young with the No. 3 overall selection, Volek realized Young is the future of the franchise. Still, Volek does not mind helping Young learn the NFL ropes. He said, "Steve McNair has been a wonderful mentor to me, and anything I can impart to Vince and have him learn from me, I'll be glad to do." On McNair's status with the team, Volek added, "With everything that's gone on, I really don't think Steve will be back."
================================================== =========
If I was Steve McNair, I think I would just retire. Not saying that he can't do it or anything, but he'll probably go to the Baltimore Ravens, a team that I don't believe is really ready to go to the Super Bowl. Then again, I can't be certain about that because they've never really had a good offense. He'll have his old target Derrick Mason back so that's good. Not to mention, he can make wonders work for Todd Heap. However, I'd most likely want to retire as a Tennessee Titan. Even though it'd be hard now after all that stuff that's happened.

And why not? They have kept their main pieces in both offense and defense. Heap and Mason? How about Mark Clayton? Those three make for a very good receiving tandem; it is Kyle Boller who has been holding them down. Their OL, while not exactly the best, is still effective. With a very good passer like McNair and a good running game led by Jamal Lewis or Mike Anderson, they can be back in contention in their division.
ya steve mcnair will wind up playing for the ravens.
Well the Pittsburgh Steelers are proven champions, and the Bengals are good. So they may be in contention, but I'd say winning more than 10 games would be a stretch.
Baltimore went 2-4 against divisional opponents last year. 3 of those 4 losses came like this:
@CLE: 16-20. Boller had below 50% completion pct with no scores. Jamal Lewis ran 20-for-89, not a good average. The defense had 2 picks, 4 sacks, a fumble returned for TD, and still lost the game.
@PIT: 19-20. Close game at the end; before the 4th quarter, the score was 10-17 so the D had held Pit, and Anthony Wright couldn't cut it.
vCIN: 21-9. Zero production by the pass offense, only 153 yards. They never established their running game, despite Cincinnat's well known weakness in run D.
Give them a good QB, they possibly win these three games, putting their record at 9-7, and another "woulda" victory over the Titans (go figure) results in a three-way tie with Cincy and Pittsburgh.

The Ravens beat Pittsburgh once last year, and lost another ver close game with Anthony Wright at quarterback. He missed a wide open TD at the end of the first half and Matt Stover missed a long field goal early in the game. If either play would have converted they would have swept the Steelers and Pittsburgh would not have made the playoffs. If McNair comes they will be contenders. The Bengals are nothing w/o Palmer, and Pittsburgh just had an amazing run. The Division is open, Cleveland may even surprise some people, but i dount it they always seem to find ways to lose.

While I would probably just retire as well, I can't see McNair hanging them up that easily.
This is a guy who continously plays through injuries, does everything he can to gain extra yards without regard to his personal safety, the man just won't go down without a fight. He won't retire willingly unless they carry his body off the field.

TITANS, RAVENS CAN'T MAKE A DEAL FOR McNAIR
A league source tells us that the Tennessee Titans and the Baltimore Ravens have been unable to negotiate an agreement on a trade for quarterback Steve McNair. Per the source, the Ravens are content to sit tight and wait for the Titans to cut McNair.
But Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Titans will hold onto McNair until the eve of training camp, if for no reason other than to limit the amount of time that McNair has to get acclimated to the Ravens' offensive system.

I do not agree the way the Titans are treating Steve McNair, have that organization forgot what has he done for them in his prime. The guy turned a sub par team into contenders for a couple of seasons before the organization decide to gut their veterans and let them go into free agency. How can the Titans treat Steve McNair like left overs at a dinner table,by not allowing him to join the team in off season conditioning programs,i do hope the Titans release him and the Ravens sign him or any other NFL team.

Yeah, but tsk tsk, the 49ers let Montana and Rice go before their retirement, so we have no moral authority to speak on the topic.

Classless move by the Titans. :nonono: :fishing:
I think it all comes down to a simple question: Are the Ravens capable of building for the future, in the verge of Ray Lewis' breakdown as a player?
Or are they a "win now" team?

It's a two-way street. If it meant so much to them to retire as 49ers they could have taken pay cuts to stay...but neither did.
I love both but the bottom line is we never FORCED any of them to leave, you will argue and say that by cutting their pay we forced them out but since they were both already millionaires and certainly didn't NEED the money I cant see them as being forced to go.
