I just wanted to say thank you manny!
That was a HUGE play he made blocking that punt setting the tone for a completly dominant second half! We probably still would have pulled this one out but that play woke a flat team and made everyone remember we should be kicking these sorry raiders azz!
Sometimes all it takes is 1 play and today Manny made it

Agreed - Manny was a Monster today. A great pick by the Niners braintrust and I am excited to watch the young man progress. :towel:

lawson on defense was a joke. he was repeatedly push off the ball opening huge holes for raider running backs. just watch replay, he's the guy getting push toward out of bounds. he might be the highest paid special team player in 49er history. unless he can gain 20 lbs, he has no future in nfl.

I think manny is still in the mode of just making sure he is not out of position. Once he gets the playbook down! We will see

What game were you watching? He is doing his job. He is not allowing the RB to swing it outside. He made some great plays today. He is still a rookie and unless we are going to turn Manny into a D-end. His weight is just fine

Was it Manny who tipped the pass for one of the picks?

Yes it was, Manny had a great game. The blocked punt was definately a turning point in the game.

Charles Haley didn't do much his first year either - certainly not the plays that Manny has done in only 4 games.
I'm looking forward for Manny to be all pro in 3 years. He did indeed come close to some sacks today, and The Stork (ted Hendricks of the 70's raiders, and Jack Lambert of the 4 time superbowl 70's pittsburg steelers) both HOF players - were similar to Manny in phisique.

He had some ridiculous speed on that blocked punt, difference maker! would of liked to see some more action from him though..

How dominant would this guy be as a strong safety? With his 6'5" height, wingspan and speed, he'd be a mismatch. Plus he would jack up some TE's and WR's.
I do think he will need to gain 10-15 lbs as well as strength to become a really great olb, but am prewtty happy with his progress.

Say what you want about Manny, but as far as I can tell I think he is probably in the lead for defensive rookie of the year. He had some big impact plays today, and is showing other teams he is a force to be reckoned with. In a few weeks you will be hearing talk from other teams about how they need to game plan around him. He will be good for years to come. I am very happy with him on our team.
Oh yeah, what has Mario Williams done this year. Manny is playing like he is worth a number one pick in the draft!! Keep it up Manny. (Your mark this next week is to put Rivers in the ground a few times) :ninerh:

You have a good point. His play helped create a spark!! No doubt. Our defense began to smell blood.

The play that impressed me the most today was when Manny faked to the outside on a blitz, then juked back inside in time to block Tuiasosopo's pass, which resulted in an interception. I've been fairly disappointed with Lawson's pass rushing technique so far, but that move gave me hope that Manny will learn how to be an effective blitzer someday.

I agree, give the guy a bit more experience, and towards the end of the season, he might be just what the Doctor ordered for the pass rush.

He would? That guy had a hard enough time being a teamate let alone a coach

It wouldn't hurt to explore that situation. Maybe time has mellowed him out.

Yet he was the most ferocious pass rusher we've had in God knows how long.

I totally agree. This play was HUGE! I feel the same way as far as being disappointed with his pass rushing, but i'll give him a break being a rookie. He's still searching for his "feel" of the game at this level. So he'll have his games where he'll make plays like rushing and tipping a pass, blocking a punt, etc.
But in the same fashion he'll have those games where you're wondering whether or not he's on the field! It's all a part of the progression rookies go through. Especially on the defensive side of the ball. And even more in his case since he's got sort of a hybrid build right now and the team is experimenting and learning what he does well and striving to put him in those situations where he can excel at what he does well.
Great game today. Something to build on for sure.
