The KC Chiefs cut him and I was wondering since he has tremendus run stop ability for any defense. How good do you think he would fit in Nolan's schem?

I read that on ESPN too and it sounds as if he has the skills that translate perfectly for a 3-4 defense. And to add to that he would come at a cheap price!!!:sf49:

i love it. Any defensive line help is needed. Jonathan Sullivan was also cut by the Patriots. San Fran could be a nice change of scenery for him

Gotta luv a dude with Loin in his name. He can join the all-body-part team along with Dick ButtKiss, Mike Rump(h), Quentin Jammer...:hide:

Why is it that when a team dumps a player that is not performing well enough to earn a PS spot there becomes a thread wanting them to become a 49er?

I say no. Let's get solid proven players. Let the flunkies flunk out.

I wonder that too.

But more importantly, if the 49ers sign anyone, someone else must be cut.

So, in my humble opinion, every "should we sign" post should have a " and so-so should be cut to make room" part of the post.

These threads start up because fans are becoming desparate. I guess everyone wants the new D hype to come in and spark new interest for us to gossip about. lol :gathering:

Chris Hetherington or Moran Norris will likely get cut if we were to pick someone up.

I would agree with that.

I think we got enough run stuffers for now. Find me someone who can rush the passer effectively or do both rush the passer and stop the run and I'll figure out who we can get rid of to sign his arse up!

Umm, he's been here before, you know. We released him just before the start of the regular season during one of the Erickson years.

lets wait it out. seems like we talk about every single FA hoping we sign him and when the time comes Nolan doesn't sign him. yes we need help on defense but it seems Nolan has a plan and is sticking to it.

He's not eligible for practice squad. And they dumped him because he's a run-stuffing 2-gap DT who can't play in the NEW ONE-GAP penetration defense they're playing and they needed a corner. Hence, they cut the guy with no future and didn't fit thier defense for someone they needed now.

Honestly, he's okay. Certainly not a savior or capable of acutually upgrading our line in any significant way. Or a guy who is even top-half. But he'd probably be good for 30 snaps and could knock off the weakest linemen on the squad and we'd be better for it.

He does have a flag:

Lionel Dalton was arrested early Friday and charged with domestic battery for an alleged physical altercation with his estranged wife, according to the KC Star. He is scheduled to appear in court next week.

That pretty much drops his chances of becoming a niner. I would like to have him but there really isnt a point because he doesnt have very many years left. I'd rather keep getting Fields and Sop reps to see if there the future or not

While these types of threads are often annoying, there are times when it's a good question to ask. Sometimes the "flunkies" will perform better with a new team simply because they fit the system better. I believe Walt Harris was a cut player when the Niners picked him up this offseason (grant it he's a veteran), and he's having a great year so far. Sometimes one team's trash is another team's treasure.

But despite Len's explanation that Dalton didn't fit in the Herm Edwards "one-gap" defensive scheme and the suggestion that Dalton will be a "hot property" on the market, the chatter we're hearing out of Kansas City is that some teammates regarded Dalton as a royal pain in the butt.
