Extra points

Safety Chris Harris (quadriceps) was the only player to miss practice.

Receiver Mark Bradley (knee), Joe (hamstring) and defensive end Adewale Ogunleye (hamstring) were all questionable but practiced. Cornerback Ricky Manning Jr. (hamstring) is probable for Sunday.

Actually the official stats credited him with 19
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/boxscores/2006/10/16/2088_boxscore.html

The 25 came from when coaches went back and reviewed the tape. Tackles are not an official stat anyway which is why there are always differences. 19 still aint too shabby.

yeah he took over the second half....

as for mike brown being out... when he was out last year the bears averaged 40 more yards rushing per game... if I remember reading that correctly... so it could help us out:unsure:

Thats true but you have to remember that was last years team. Chicagos defense is better against the run and pass this yr. There were more players brought in to add depth as well so I would not rely on anything happening that happened last yr. But you very well could be right although it didn't seem in the arizona that his backup missed a beat as far as helping stop the run. hes a vet and has been in the league for a few years.

i wouldnt say theyre clearly better than last year, theyve just played against some poor competetion. sure, seattle was probably still "elite" when they played but theyre clearly not the same offense.

Good point but at the same time they are clearly better to me being that I watched every game last yr. They have a better and more consistent D line with better depth (a backup rookie 2nd in the NFL in sacks), a better secondary (adding ricky manning jr who could probably start in alot of places) and having a true FS who has CB skills as opposed to a FS who is really a SS. I would consider that an upgrade as opposed to not change at all.

—The 49ers hope Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher sees a lot of fullback Moran Norris on Sunday. Norris has taken over for Chris Hetherington as the team's starter because of his impressive blocking. :banana4:

their secondary is prime to be exposed. that defense relies on the front 4 for pressure and the LBs to attack short areas. i think we match up pretty well with the bears because of our offensive line, save for kwame harris in pass pro.

Well if you say so, considering we have faced teams with better offensive weapons and have yet to get burnt by opposing WRs, I feel confident in our secondary againt SF. We saw the infamous " 4 wide monster" from seattle and I didn't see much airing it out. I would think those WRs are a little better in talent than SFs as a whole. But we'll see. I know one thing, if SF is airing it out that would probably mean they are down alot of points.

I am pumped that Nolan wants Lewis on the field, I have been wanting this for a long time and I think Lewis will step up and take the job sooner rather than later.

oh there wont be any "airing it out" in the game unless grossman is doing it, i firmly believe that.

quick reads, screens, boots, and short timing passes to gore/hicks, battle, and EJ will make your D play on its heels and soften you against the run. then we will run on that look until you bring 8 in the box, then we will take our shots deep to bryant and gilmore.

truthfully, im just interested to see how we stack up. san diego has a stellar defense against the run and pass and we were able to score on them with efficient and smart playcalling. the game got out of hand and we had to ditch the run and they had their way with us. if the bears dont come out shooting for big plays and points it could be a great game. if grossman comes out hot we dont have a chance.

when i say "exposed" i dont mean, "get burnt for huge plays all day", but more along the lines of creative scheming to mess up your mental games in coverage. you get DBs questioning where they need to be and who they need to cover and youre going to see a lot of breakdowns and plays made against them. without brown in the game, we have a chance to make that happen.

Yeah I could see that. But theres a big fundamental difference between the 3-4 that SD runs and the bears D. SD's D requires players to read and react and puts extremely more pressure on the secondary to make decisions as to where to go and which man to take. It also leaves them out on islands alot more. The bears D is a gap control D, and the secondary either have zones to be in or a single man to cover. I dont think there can be too many mental breakdowns because either you get to your spot or you dont. Its not alot of thinking involved. Now forgetting the play is one thing, but being in the system for a few years I am sure they know the plays and are consistently where they need to be. The rest is just making the play when its there. But i see your point and I think SDs D is more vunerable to those types of plays where as chicagos is a bend but dont break type of defense.
