Cowboys coach rats out McD's over rodent in salad

Associated Press

DALLAS -- Dallas Cowboys (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=dal) passing game coordinator Todd Haley is suing a suburban McDonald's after claiming his wife and their family's au pair found a dead rat in their salad.

The lawsuit filed Thursday in state district court seeks $1.7 million in damages, The Dallas Morning News reported on its Web site.

In addition to Haley, who got in a well-publicized shouting match with Terrell Owens (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=3664) earlier this month, the suit was also filed on behalf of his wife, Christine, and the family's live-in babysitter, Kathryn Kelley.

The dead rodent, believed to be a juvenile roof rat, was about 6 inches long and was found on its back with its mouth opened, Scott Casterline, a spokesman for the family, told The Associated Press.

He said the women didn't find the rat until taking the salad home to eat, and that a manager from the McDonald's "didn't offer any comfort" after driving to their house to see the rodent. The suit was filed after the restaurant didn't follow through on promises "to make things right," he said.

"The family needs closure," Casterline told The Associated Press. "It came to a point where you have to draw a line."

A message left for McDonald's Corp. spokesman Walt Riker on Thursday evening was not immediately returned. Ken Lobato, owner-operator of the McDonald's in Southlake, told the newspaper that he hadn't seen the suit and couldn't respond.

"According to the lawsuit, Christine Haley and Kelley had eaten part of the salad purchased June 5 at a McDonald's in Southlake before the dead rodent was uncovered.

The women became violently ill and endured long-lasting physical injuries, the lawsuit said.

It's the NEW AMERICAN WAY!!!

That's right boys and girls, the NEW AMERICAN WAY to instant riches and self gratification is to FILE A LAWSUIT!!! Remember, when filing the lawsuit, ALWAYS ask for mega-millions in the hope that you'll get an out of court settlement equaling at least 25% of what you're asking (after attorney fees)...

SUE them all, let the lawyers duke it out!!!

For 1.7 million dollars I would eat that rat, ask for seconds, and thank god and McDonalds for puting it in my salad. Pain and suffering, emotional distress, and severely ill for some time would well be worth the wait and agony!! I'm rich beeeoootch!!

Why would anyone ever feel bad for McDonalds gettin sued for something like that ? People go and pay hard earned money to have a meal, and something is MAJORLY wrong if there is a rat in a salad.

Not to mention McD's, just like any other corporation, is selfish and scandalous at the top. They grossly unerpay employees when they have more than enough money to raise their wages, and not to mention they are feeding all of us food made from the lowest quality of ingredients, stuff thats going to contribute to serious health problems in the future, and someone is feelin bad for them ?

Ya, she didn't eat the rat, didn't get sick, she doesn't deserve anything. I guess all the attempted murderers who get caught before committing the crime should just be let free, because, hey, its not like they actually hurt anyone !

She doesn't deserve anything that is why. By the court allowing such garbage more and more do it. Then you start getting those..."he hurt my feelings" lawsuit. The only thing McDonalds owes here is a refund...if she got sick..then Dr's bills and the such..maybe a little money for being sick...But 1.7million? hell, even 10,000 is overexcessive.

You won't see much of that 1.7 mil after the lawyers and IRS get ahold of it.

I am not for people making THAT much money for something like this. I think they should get SOME money for it. I don't doubt that that is emotionally stressful, etc. I just think 1.7 M is way too much.

I do, however, believe that McDonald's should have to forfeit that much money for letting that happen. There has to be penalties for things like that or else it will happen more often.

I've been to restaurants where if you told them there was a rat in your salad, they'd charge you for the extra topping.

$1.7 million in damage is excessive, but I support this totally. We're not living in the early 20th century where they let the food industry put pure crap into our food. Maybe this will make resteraunts and fast food branches a bit better with how they make the food. Hell, just sue the owner of the McDonalds franchise itself. Yeehhhhhhhhh.

Whats sad,is Mcdonalds will not want to spend the money on legal fees and they will settle out of court and this family will get a couple hundred thousand over this crap!

The Father should be sued for taking his family to eat mcdonalds when he can afford better food!
