Default Jeff Garcia

Was anyone else sad to see him go in '04? I was. He played his heart out, made good decisions, and was never afraid to take a hit. Before he went to Cleveland he had some great, great numbers. He also has one of teh best TD to INT ratio's in NFL History. the NFL's all-time leaders in TD/INT ratio: Steve Young (2.17), McNabb (2.03), Joe Montana (1.96), Peyton Manning (1.88), Tom Brady (1.86), and Garcia (1.77).

Heres his Carrer Stats: g gs att com % yds td int rtg
1999 San Francisco 49ers 13 10 375 225 60.0 2544 11 11 77.9

If Alex can do what Jeff did, I'd be very, very happy.

Jeff was a very solid QB up here in Canada. I had the pleasure of watching him tear appart my Riders for a few years before I was able to cheer for him as a Niner. I am always happy to see a former CFLer do well in the states and to watch Jeff mature and come into his own that year was amazing. Watching Jeff up in Canada you could tell that he was playing in a different league but always had his head grounded. I think that is why he did well in the NFL. He just came in, did the job and genuinely enjoyed his time in both the CFL and the NFL. Its too bad that injuries have slowed his effectiveness over the past couple years. I really thought he would take off in Detroit with those weapons but I don't think really got a chance. Hopefully he can find his way back onto the field someway this season and get a few more reps.

Just out of Curiosity, what do those guys in Canada make? I know they get decent crowds, but it's all hockey up there. Is Ricky Williams coming to Canada???

Exactly, we got rid of him right in time.

That last year here, he was really a roller coaster, he'd either be on... or way way off. Like that game against the Ravens. Anytime the ravens beat you that badly, you know it's time for a change

Garcia got way too many knocks for his perceived faults. Many of which only existed in the minds of his detractors.

It was unfortunate that he slight and the pounding wore on him more so than most QBs. It's also unfortunate that he messed up his back while lifting weights. That was, for him, the beginning of the end as he lost some of his first-step quickness and couldn't rotate very well to throw the swing pass, which killed his efficiency.

But it was a bright career while it lasted.

The CFL contracts are nothing in comparison to what a guy can make in the NFL. Thats why you see a lot of CFL guys go down for a year on the Practice Roster of NFL teams. QBs basically demand 300,000+ and a good WR can make 150,000+.

The Salary Managment System is being instituted next year as there was basically a "phantom salary cap" which there was pretty well no penalty for going over. Contracts will come down slightly but not much for the top flight guys. As the league gets stronger the higher the cap goes. Look at it how the NFL was back in the Pete Rozelle era. This season is the first year every game of the regular season is on TV so that should open the door to some TV contract bidding wars.

Attendance is solid in the CFL but the stadiums are no were near as big. Attendance league wide is the highest its ever been and it also has the highest TV ratings its had ever too so it looks good. Next time you see a CFL game on TV in the states check it out, its entertaining football.

I don't think Ricky is coming to the CFL. The Toronto Argonauts have his negotiation rights and Ricky said he'de be interested. Toronto said they won't pursue him without the consent from Saban but from what I heard the Dolphins won't let him go as it is a risk of injury. Ricky owes the Fins like 8 Million so a year with the Argos might yield him like 150,000 max. It would be more to stay in shape. I don't think it will happen as the CFL looks bad taking a player which the NFL has suspended and is still under contract with the Dolphins.

Onterio Smith however is rumoured to be going to Winnipeg as the Vikings released him. So stay tuned on that one.

onterrio smith, isn't he suspended for the year? Or was that last year? That would be a very, very smart move for him. He could build up his rep, and really do some damage there. The guy isn't a bad RB, and has world class speed. Whoever gets him will be getting a good rb.

I think the 49ers have a good reason to let players go... I think TO is the only former 49er to leave and go on to have a pro bowl season since released by the 49ers... and he wasn't let go for playing reasons... we all know that
