Default Numbers game, We NEEDED the men we drafted!

With the draft in the rear view mirror, half of the board is happy while the other half is less then pleased. But it is simple...its all a numbers game. We needed these guys. If you look at our team, we had NO depth at the O-Line, NONE! And now that Baas has a torn pec, what does this leave us? A converted former D-Line men turned O-line, or Wag, sure he has filled in nicely but for a full season? We lost two players guys with the loss of Smiley and the probable Allen. These players need to be replaced.

The same goes for the D-line, We lost the keystone to this team with BY and then lose Dougles to free agnecy. These players need to be replaced. And the team did that. Not to mention draft a player that will make the new leader of the defense...WILLIS, even better. We drafted the BPA that we had a need for, the fell to us and we wasted no time taking him.

Now we look at the Wideouts. And lets face it, the team improved the talent with free agency. With the additon of Bruce and Johnson, who replace Djack and Gilmore. And yes these are upgrades. And lets not forget that we don't know what we have in Hill and the hopes that Martz system can use Lelie to his strong points of a deep threat. The current roster has more wideouts then we can carry for a season. This is not a pressing need. Granted I am not going to lie to you and say, I didn't want a Jackson or Sweed, because I would have loved them, but its not a need.

Now we take the topic of Groves, once again I am not going to lie and say I didn't want him, but we have so many backers, We have TBC who is and will be a better situational pass rusher, Moore who is like Jason Hill in that we don't really know what we have, Parys and Oliver who has been solid, and not to mention Manny will be back. Groves just was not a need. Groves would have been a luxury.

This draft was not sexy but did make this team better. Our team is right in the middle of the spectrum. We are in far better shape then the teams that have no talent, that can take anyone and it will improve their roster, and we are not the Pats that can just draft at will.

Agreed. Bruce and Johnson are huge upgrades and the Niners can adress the WR position next year. If we would have drafted a LB or WR then our biggest weaknesses would still be there. O Line and D Line.

you lost all credibility when you trotted out "Parys, and Harrison (???) " and for the LOL of all LOL's, "TBC who is and will be a better situational pass rusher". Pepsi Machine is a better situational pass rusher than TBC.

Its no secret that TBC is not a full time player, and does far better in the situational pass rush. And Parys and sorry for the type-o "Oliver" have been solid depth on this team

And by the way, read the post. Its all about having player and depth in position and not having depth in a position and drafting to correct the lack of depth, rather then drafting a 12th wideout for the roster.

yes, TBC is better in situational duty. that's like saying root canal is better in smaller doses. and herpes is better in small breakouts. just like slow, fat, disinterested, soft, one dimensional losers are better coming off the bench as opposed to playing the whole game. what's the next nugget - "gravity sucks"?

Once again let us review the point of the thread, We have more outside backers then d-line men. We have more wideouts then the roster can carry during a season. We have no depth on the O-line. So to put it into terms for you, by drafting more of something that the team already has, is like having herpes and going out and getting more herpes, its only going to hurt you in the end. Let me know if you need more help with the reading comprehension of this thread. Thanks and have a great night!

I disagree to some extent. While we did improve the WR spot with Bruce and BJ, it's only a short term solution. Bruce is on the decline and BJ is only here for 1 year. As for the rest of the WR's Lelie is a bust and Hill is still a BIG ????. I wanted to see us grab at lease one of the top WR's in the draft. We haven't given Alex any long term target. I don't like the one and done effect of BJ because if he breaks out this year he'll be sought after and would likely leave. If that happens we're back to square one with no target for the QB.

This is very true, But this can be addressed next year with free agency and the draft.
