Default How the 49ers are viewed from afar...

As a faithful from overseas since 1980, it angers me to read the the future of this famous club may be played in another city.

To all the so-called faithful who've posted threads of approval or apathy, consider the following:

The city of San Francisco and the San Francisco 49ers prestige, heritage and appeal are intrincately linked and forged since inception all those years ago at Kezar and later at Candlestick.

When one sees the Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower, the Transamerica Pyramid, Alcatraz etc etc, these city landmarks are identifiable with the 49ers.

Dont dismiss the history of your team so easily. Embrace the city this team bears its name. It where it all began and it should be preserved. Find a way to keep the niners in San Francisco. Even if the city or the Yorks arent trying hard enough to make it happen. The faithful can make a difference in numbers.

I have witnessed first hand what happens to the identity of teams once they leave their spiritual homes. (Aussie rules football) Its never the same. Forever in many ways the spirit is gone.

As long as we keep the 49er name, I don't really care since I live nowhere near California.

I think we all want to stay in San Francisco but I dont think its possible. If Santa Clara can get us the stadium, we'll still be San Francisco no matter what. Nothing will change, only our location of the stadium. I can see if we were changing our name or our City's name but we are still the San Francisco 49ers...

I was pro San Francisco too but at this point I dont care if its in SF or SC, just get this **** stadium built!

Not much news on the SC deal and no word either from Carmen on Prop G.

There is nothing that would be better than is to build the stadium if money didn't matter. The big problem in SF is land. There is not enough of it and what is ther is all being used or someone has an idea of how to use it another way and make more money off of it. Since you do not have the luck of being able to come to a game you do not get to see the nice condos that are being put up right next to the Stick. They are starting in the $500,000.00. That should give you an idea of what the land is worth that the Stick is sitting on if the City of San Francisco was to have the 49ers move to Santa Clara. The Max that the stadium could get usd by the team would be 12 times a year ( 2 preseason, 8 regular season and 2 playoff games). To have 70,000 seats and parking for say 1/2 or 3/4 of that is a lot of land that is not making money and the City knows it. They maybe have one or two concerts there a year but I think they are doing them at ATT Park now. Why do you think the city of SF is not trying too hard to keep the 49ers in SF? The 49ers are spending their own money to do up keep on the Stick not the City. I think it is a shame that the city has done this to the team.

that really doesn't make any sense to keep the name if they leave northern california or the bay area. the name "49ers" only applies to the northern california region and would sound pretty silly if put any place else. the "irwindale 49ers"? yeah that has SIGNIFICANT historical importance and makes A LOT of sense

Aren't we still going to stay in California?

Furthermore, the "49ers" name has become more associated with the football team than the original Gold Rush. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte athletic teams are also called the "49ers" and they're nowhere near the Bay Area.

I would agree with you if they were to move the 49ers to Southern California, but Santa Clara is still considered the Bay Area.

Default Sick and getting tired

Sic and Tired 1:
Please stop moving Justin around.. let him focus on one or two spots which will allow the rest of the D to get in Synch!

Sic and tired two:
Offense is as expected as with Martz is much more exciting but... a bunch of sacks and thus far predictable.

I am so sick over paying $300/yr for the last five years to see us fail....C'mon Niners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
