Default Vernon Davis - Starting Outside Linebacker?

Vernon Davis should be playing outside Linebacker. He would lead the league in Sacks. This offseason the 49ers should move him to defense, and realistically vernon has to know he has no business being a tight end with those bricks for hands he has.

He's only 24, plenty of time to fully lean the position. 6'3 250 pound outside linebacker running a 4.38, scary..

Haha, I wish man. Plus he plays with fire/aggression, something important to have as a defender. Since defense is mainly instincts and drive, it shouldn't be too hard for him to become one. Also, he would have a bit of an edge, knowing more about offense than many of the other defenders do. Move him to OLB and we'd be set at that position, Walker seems more than capable of taking over the starting TE job. Only problem is, none of the other TE's are half the blocker that VD is so running would just become that much more difficult.

that's funny you posted this, I was just thinking the same thing when I was reading the thread about how he chased down Wilson, or whoever the Seahawk was that had a pick 6. with his passion and athletic ability, he could be a force on defense.

Davis is an offense guy. He doesn't want to team up with 10 defenders to make a stop. He wants a pass to beat 10 guys and score a touchdown all by himself and be on ESPN's highlights for a week. It's his character, his ego, he has the mind of a receiver bottom line.

if they ever realistically entertained this, maybe they could sell on the fact that good pass rushers make a lot of money and get treated with much fanfare.

its def worth a shot. he is not being used to his potential on O anyway. it would be fun watching our D.

your right he sure as hell can't catch. Put him on the defensive side of the ball where you don't need to catch any balls.

He would have incredible measurables for an olb, but he is way too stiff. His pass rushing im guessing would look just like mannys.
