Roster = 53
Philly was a very straight-forward team to improve. They need to replace, or have ready to replace, the two aging tackles. They need a quality TE who can stay on the field 16 games a year. They need a strong compliment for Westy, as well as a good lead blocker who can also contribute as a receiver and on STs. They need a WR to play the role of strongman as a blocker and receiver - especially in the Red Zone. They need an heir apparent for Dawkins. The rest was just maintaining the already solid roster, and adding depth as needed. We used our two 1st round picks, and surplus of picks to go after specific targets that fit the team. One acquisition that may go unnoticed was the selection of Tyronne Green to take over at LG when Tra Thomas retires and Eugene Monroe moves from right to left tackle, and Todd Herremans moves out to RT. And the acquisition of David Irons gives added depth to the gunning team on kick-off coverage.

My strategy with DET was to get them a QBOTF, and strengthen the lines and secondary. I wanted to take them in a direction similar to what TEN did last year, pound the rock, and play great defense. The roster was awful to start with, pretty much the reason they went 0-16, so turnover was going to be big for this team. I held onto the few good players and recent top picks they had, and built from there.

Adding a few extra targets to grow up with Nate Davis was also a key component in my strategy, and by doing so, I tried to grab role players that could be used interchangeably along side Johnson to maximize passing production. Selected were a quick and agile deep threat, and a similar quick and agile guy for the slot and return teams, as well as a big bodied red-zone threat and blocking receiver. At TE, I wanted more role player types: a run blocker, a pass catcher, and a utility guy. At RB, I had a future star already, but adding Goodson allows for some versatility at the position, as well as providing a returner. Brock Bolen was brought in to compete for the FB job and play the short yardage specialist role. On the OL, Andre Smith was brought in to be the nasty run blocking bookend to last year's 1st round pick Cherilus. Eric Wood is penciled in as an immediate starter to upgrade the interior of the line, and will take over at center next year, once the other depth has assimilated to the NFL.

DET was a Tampa-2 team last year, so I tried to get bigger on the DL. Kyle Moore, Charles Johnson, and Myron Pryor bring some needed beef to the DL. The LB corps was upgrade via veteran addition, and rookie depth that needs to challenge for starting roles as soon as possible, including last year's 3rd round draft pick Jordan Dizon. James Holt is one my sleepers for this draft, and is kind of a pet project for me in the group. The secondary got a lot more physical with the additions of Allen, Spencer, and Powers. And the safeties got a lot quicker and better in coverage with Bruton and Wiley. Hodge is a ST'er and situational player on defense, but also brings more speed to the table.

The return units were upgraded, and the kickers were fine as they were. My practice squad offers more trainable depth for future benefit.
